Re: Office Communicator 2007 Woes

I totally removed the other blade that was first installed and it has been totally reformatted. It was gone out of the rack when the new blade with the current build was installed.
The old pool shows in Office Communicator Server on the new build and Best Practices scanner sees it.
I tried to remove the pool but that option is greyed out. That is when I ran Lcscmd to try to remove it and it error-ed out. It has to be picking it from Active Directory since everything else is new.
No, I didn't name the server the same thing.
The other name has to be back in use for the special app and the new name I choose makes more sense to us for the communication server.
I don't see any problems just want my pool list correct and clean

Did you uninstall the server or just blow away the box? Glad to see you got rid of the address book error.

Eah ne standard edition server creates a pool and uninstalling should remove that pool. Did you name the server with the same name as the old one?

Also quite honestly with the pool server gone you should not have any issues, its just a cosmetic thing.

To try to remove the old pool I did the following:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007>lcscmd /forest /action:removepool /PoolName:example-web

Gets to the end then gives me Error : Invalid action for Standard Edition Server.

Okay all set-up.
Installed everything on a different blade from scratch.
All the scans are a success with the exception of:
Check Web Conferencing Server Virtual Directory Setting.
Get the following:
URL:»https://example-comm.example.local/etc/p···lank.png
ow Received a failure HTTP response.: HTTP Response: 404 Not Found
MicrosoftOfficeWebServer:5.0_Pub
Content-Length:1635
Content-Type:text/html
Date:Tue, 20 Nov 2007 21:04:09 GMT
Server:Microsoft-IIS/6.0
X-Powered-By:ASP.NET

Other wise I have no errors on the Address book sync.

Also I have the old pool name in the communications server list and it will not let me right click on it and remove pool. Any ideas how to remove it?
Any additional help would be appreciated.

Yes,

I would absolutly destroy and rebuild that server. At a minimum uninstall IIS and reinstall, but even then at that point, there is stuff left behind on it from prior installs.

A. Uninstall OCS (do not roll back schema)
B. Disjoin machine from domain (or wipe machie and rejoin with same name)
C. Reinstall OCS and make sure that you join with the same name and all that good stuff

YOu will have to request certificates all over again, and your RTC service accounts will not be recreated automatically because they exist already. Create new accounts or use the existing passwords from the already created accounts.

Hey Wildwest, sorry about the delay I was on travel . The AB Service is installed automatically when the server is installed and configured as a front end server.

Answer:
That's fine this is a side project now

Quote:
Do you have any other services running on the machine? I saw Sharepoint listed in one of your servers? You can uninstall and reinstall Office Communication Server wihtout an issue, the biggest thing is the schema extension and that is not rolled back on uninstall.

Answer:
This server was initially set-up as a application web server for a specialized app via the web. Will attach services list. That was why I was thinking a clean install and try again?

Quote:
YOu should check if your clients actually have it, it takes a while for them to download the file. YOu will know its working if you do a search for a user and they show up (so look for administrator or wildwest in AD and see if that is working).

Answer:
No, search is returning any results and it is has populated all weekend...

Quote:
Other than address book, is everything else working correctly???

Answer:
Yes, as far as I can tell everything seems fine so far other than the address book. Haven't dug too since I have been concentrating on this error.

Quote:
P.S. Leave the client online overnight.

Answer:
I have left the client on for over two days.

Also can you post your IIS virtual directory configuration?

What do you think about this. I have checked everything I can think of and can't see any reason for this to fail.

Okay checked logs on Checking the Address Book Server Configuration:

URL: »»https://example-web.example.local····9c8.dabs
Received a failure HTTP response.: HTTP Response: 500 Internal Server Error
MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices:6.0.2.6568
Content-Length:4837
Cache-Control:private
Content-Type:text/html; charset=utf-8
Date:Sat, 17 Nov 2007 00:37:45 GMT
Server:Microsoft-IIS/6.0
X-AspNet-Version:2.0.50727
X-Powered-By:ASP.NET

Received a failure HTTP response.: InternalServerError
Suggested Resolution: Check whether the Web Server or Office Communications Server component is running and also listening on the specified url. If server is behind a load balancer, please make sure the loopback connection is allowed from load balancer FQDN.
Suggested Resolution: Check the Web Proxy setting in this machine and ensure that it is correctly configured

Also download the OCS BPA:

There. Check your IIS Virtual Directory on the standard edition server and look at the ABS folder, make sure it is getting populated with bunches of files, then check the permissions of the IIS virtual directory (in the link I posted earlier).

Other than address book download is everything else working as expected in your client (IM and Presence)???

If I were to uninstall Office Communicator Server 2007 what does that do to my active directory? Does it clean up or leave a file mess.
This is a new AD set-up and hate to start with a mess or screw it up. (I know should have tested in a close environment instead of on my live AD network)

Also if I were to re-install Windows Server 03 and re-load this from scratch since I know a few more things will that effect the AD?

Went ahead and ran abserver -syncnow

Got the following response:

Triggering Address Book Server synchronization pass - successful.
You might have to wait up to five minutes for it to actually complete.

Okay figured this out:

Note

In Office Communications Server 2007, the Address Book Server is configured automatically. For information about changing Address Book Server settings, see the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Public Beta Administration Guide.

Been a long week sorry!

Still need to discover why the service doesn't show.

Users where configured through AD server and the communications tab under user properties. Then added their sid username.

Yes, users are using TLS to connect to the OCS server.

To answer your questions Vic......

Running one OCS server currently for testing.

Standard Edition

Address book service is not running nor present in the services list.
Went to the following for install..
Run AbsSetup.exe from the Setup\i386\ folder
No, file exists in the se_eval folder under i386.

Did go to the OCS server and found abserver.exe
(Location C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007\Server\Core. )Did not run however since I don't have the Address book service running.

Any ideas on install of this service?

Also check the OCS server logs, it has its own logging section, and check the logs of the configured users.

Speaking of which, how did you configure the users, did you create the DNS SRV record? Are you using TLS to connect to the OCS server?

Hey Wildwest, I am sorry, reading it through IM I did not understand your issue. There is another common error called the Outlook Integration Error, and your Free/Busy (Calendar) data cannot be collected. If you arent using Exchange (or Popping) that happens quite frequently. For the address book, you should be able to download the address book even without Outlook. My bad on that I didnt understand......

How many OCS servers do you have? Are you using the standard or enterprise edition?

Take a look at the services and make sure the address book service is started.

Go to the OCS servers and look for the abserver.exe command (it should be under the Programfiles/OCS/support or something like that, just do a search for abserver.exe. When you find it, open a command line and do:

abserver.exe -syncnow it should show a "command complete" then leave communicator open for an hour or so, it needs to copy down the file from OCS and that can take a while depending on how big your AD is.

Thanks.
