Uverse - Florida?

Around the beginning of the year there were some reports Uverse would be available in Florida around the end of the year. Well, it's just about year end and I can't seem to find any info.

It was in the Sun Sentinel. I suppose being in print it was still a rumor.

I haven't seen any public releases from AT&T saying such, so I'd say a rumor until they do.

The only rumor I've heard and it's a pretty good rumor. Is that Jacksonville is going online late next summer. I think Orlando and most of the Florida panhandle is going online before that.

I soon as Jacksonville goes online, Brunswick and Waycross Georgia is going online with it also. Since we are the only ones in southeast Georgia that is in the Jacksonville viewing area. We already have about 60 sites that VRADS are going in in Waycross. I can't wait, I hope they have the bugs worked out before it gets here.

I guess the first question to ask would be to any Florida Techs -- are you being trained at the present moment to install U-Verse?

Bring it...we're ready. I believe I've got a VRAD sitting about 2 blocks away from my house.

That would be a premises tech and they are being hired off the street. Any current tech would be making a lot more than a prem tech.

Bugs? I haven't seen any official announcements concerning bugs, they're just "features."

We were told that south fl was getting it early/mid next year. And Jacksonville was getting it toward the end of next year. The place we were told getting it is a new development called Rivertown, it is rumored it will be FTTP, and Rivertown has not even broken ground yet....so.... who knows.

And no, we have had no training on U-Verse, we were told that premise techs would be doing the installs and we might be doing some of the troubleshooting/repairs.

Looks like the best bet is to not hold any breath. I saw the subscriber stats somewhere and it didn't look that impressive (about 160K users) for a company of AT&T's size.

As for new developments most have gone on hold, at least around here. The developers are having a hard enough time selling units they've already overbuilt.

That's the same thing we are hearing here, and no they haven't even started putting any vrads in or doing any cable work yet. They are suppose to hire 2 temp OPT's and 2 premise techs, but we haven't seen or heard anything new in several months.

I live in West Central Florida and for the last three years we have had to make do with FTTP, crappy 20/5 for $50. You guys are so lucky to have the prospect of Uverse.
att, your world delivered !!

I spoke to a CWA the other day and he said that we will be getting 24mbps DSL over two pairs of copper in January of 2008 in Fort Lauderdale. The only catch is you HAVE TO take the Digital Cable with it. I have DTV already and don't have any use for Cable TV. Bring on the 24mbps!!!

But what he didn't say was that 6Mbps was still all you will get for DSL and all the other will be allocated for TV service.

If you cannot fix it with a buttset and some beanies you ain't a technician.

I thought I found some info that it was a little higher »www.uverseusers.com/content/view/110/8/.

Yes, that says what it could do. But I don't think that any U-Verse user has an option to choose anything higher than 6Mb.

AT&T has recently deployed a number of new environmental cabinets in the northern Lighthouse point area. Each one is serviced by at least a dozen fibre strands.

Equipment has yet to be installed into the newly powered cabinets.

Last week, I saw them replacing some of the pole mounted wiring and running new cables to cabinets.

There not just in LHP they are showing up everywhere down here.
