The TV usage has no effect that I can detect (including recording on the DVR)... as I understand it, they dedicate 10 mbps for Internet, 10-13 mbps for HD and 2 mbps for non HD TV. upload is dedicate the same way with 1.5 mbps dedicated to internet. The total is about 26 mbps.

I haven't explored the gateway much (not yet anyway... :) ).

Speed tests have varied from system to system (I have 3 Windows XP-Pro systems, my wife has 1 OS-X Mac)... my 3 Mhz dual core does around 6 MBPS, my older 2.4 Mhz single core does about 3.5 mbps, my wireless 1.7 Mhz dual core laptop, about 2.8 mbps and the dual CPU 1.25 Mhz Mac running OS-X (latest release) about 1 to 1.2 mbps. I don't run the speed tests at the same time BTW.

"Delay time in changing the channel"... do you mean in the TV boxes? (which run WindowsCE 5.something) If so, they are very fast... much faster than my old DirecTV boxes. If you mean the switch from FastAccess 6 mbps DSL to U-verse? It took the better part of an afternoon (Saturday) and about 5 hours of tweaking and troubleshooting today (Sunday). I hope that answered you.

I finally found one of their tech guys that explained it (exactly as you did). The VDSL adapter only exists in the local terminal where the fiber stops and the copper starts, not the house.

These same sales reps are the ones that claimed the 2wire gateway supported Wireless-N (it's Wireless-G)... I'll have to set up a subnet on my Wireless-N router to get my wireless range and speed back to normal.

In general, they (tech support) were able to reconfigure and reset my modem/router (what they are calling the "gateway") to 10 mbps and I'm seeing speeds now in the 6 mbps area on my XP systems.

My wife's OS-X system is still stuck at about 1 to 1.2 mbps down and 1.5 mbps up (they are still baffled but I'll be speaking with one of their Mac people tomorrow).

I will say this, their support, knowledge and response speed has been incredible when you compare it to my bellsouth.net support. U-verse is worlds better at it.

I'm much happier now than I was yesterday.

I'll keep posting to this thread as things progress (if nobody minds).

Uverse is an FTTN product, always has been. Not everybody with SBC FTTH has Uverse.

As for the copper; conditioning usually means removing bridged taps, load coils, pair gains, and other such VDSL killers on the "Last Mile" runs from the "B-Box" to the premises. It appears that they did replace the copper in my neighborhood; but the original copper was laid out 43 1/2 years ago, or so.

As usual, good news and bad news.

U-verse was installed today on-time. The bad news is that I didn't get the 10 megabit bandwdith I was promised... it can barely achieve 2.5 megabit down and .8 up. This is much slower than the 6 megabit DSL it replaced.

I'll be demanding they either do 9.5 megabit or better, or put my DSL service back in.

Good news, the cable modem/router is 8 port wireless-N (2WIRE 3800HGC-8).

More bad news... no fiber to the house... it's running on the same 27 year old copper my DSL used.

For the other person in Coral Springs, I'm in the ShadowWood development. Personaly I would hold off until I can find out why my service is so slow.

By the way, the video part of the service is excellent and the DVR is impressive and responsive (I was able to run 4 recordings at once with no quality problems).

Yep. Your current DSL service is connected to a DSLAM either at an RT, or a CO. Uverse will be served from a VRAD. Your copper will have to be switched from a cross-box connection back to that DSLAM to a VRAD connection (near to that cross-box).
It seems that they can still run POTS along with the U-Verse data connection from the VRAD, which is what I'm using since VOIP isn't available yet.
From talking with a Uverse tech, at a VRAD in San José, California, I understand that the IPTV/DSL signal is mixed on the copper at the VRAD. IPTV/DSL rides the fiber to the VRAD. POTS rides the copper from the CO to the crossbox. IPTV/DSL is muxed onto the copper at the VRAD, and runs to the premises on the copper.

Something like that.

I think I overheard them say that I was getting well over 25Mb to the VRAD, which was ~1100 feet away.

It took about 4-5 hours to install. It would have been done in about three hours except that the RG kept losing signal whenever someone picked up a phone. Apparently, the wiring in my apartment was pretty messed up; but they sorted it all out, and everything works great! :D

I have no idea on the time frame, although I suspect it will be very soon.

The initial roll-out will be very limited, if they follow the pattern of deployment in Metro Atlanta. They'll start with a few installers, then add a few more, turn up another wire center here and there, add a few more installers, etc.

It takes time. It won't be an instant all of S FL can now get U-verse effective such and such a date. More of a ramping up. the reality is that Advanced cable is owned by a media group that owns several tv stations/radio stations/newstations around the united states, so they are very unlikely to give it up unless they get offered A LOT of money..
the reality is that they only have around 82,000 subscribers
so for comcast its probably not a juicy acquisition. Plus the network needs major work as its still working on docsis 1.0 AND their actual cabling needs major re-work ( look at the local channels they look like hell)

But back on topic, as far as weston goes, probably splitpair has a better idea of how weston infrastructure is as he has worked around here :P

Either way ATT is prepping both areas of lower and very high income around here in ATL.

What it really comes down to is the accessibility of the plant as well as the condition of the plant....IE cost to get it ready for Uverse.

If engineering thinks that it will cost too much to get an area certified for VDSL then it will skip over that area. The distance estimator, here at BBR, is closed until further notice. It used to put me at just 6,000 feet, or so, from the CO, on a Covad provisioned loop. The AT&T Direct techs put me at 9,156 feet by MLT, and my loop is actually provisioned by ATTIS.

It would be nice to be just 6,000 feet out. Instead of just barely qualifying for the Pro package (3008/512), I'd easily be in range for the Elite package (6016/768). The last numbers thrown out by an AT&T tech state that I am 156 feet beyond the distance at which they would provision for the Pro package out of a CO.

My line stats are more consistent with 9,000 feet than 6,000 feet.

That's a double sided crossbox and may be a precurser to U-Verse. Often times what happens is an old box such as the one in the background is cutover to one side of the new box and the DSL pairs are run to the other side from an ajacent DSLAM. Crossconnects are then placed from the old side F1's to the DSL side and then back to the F2's.

My DSL syncs exactly at 8000/512 each and every time I restart my modem.

Head end equipment is being installed in the COs. VRADs already have power.

Only thing holding up UVERSE is ATT, not equipment.
