They could build easily.

Honestly the largest cellular network is Verizon's and that is worth about 168 Billion.

Say 200 Billion to buy and build a new network that can take advantage of the latest technology has to offer. Remember Google owns a lot of dark fiber they got cheaply during the fiber glut. They might already have enough key facilities to build a core network in the 20 largest markets (Note not largest cities).

Verizon Wireless generates about 8 billion a year in profits.

Google has 200 billion on hand to do this and would be debt free essentially as well once they build the network. Imagine the dividends for the shareholders. It would also add to Google's hard asset value that many dot.com's lack. Were not talking about blowing away 200 billion on something that could end up being worth less. It would be worth far more once it's built in terms of potential revenue.

Course for 200 billion Google could overbuild the national telephone infrastructure VZ,AT&T, Qworst and do FTTH everywhere. Imagine the profits in advertising on gTV!

It's interesting that at this point in time a company has the weight and know how to challenge the Giants of the Telecom industry. I say it's about time.
