It updates the usb driver and fixes usb audio problems. Unfortunately, my headphones are upstairs with the rest of my peripherals because my father in law is sleeping in the bedroom! If you've heard of this fix, let me know what i am to expect tomorrow when i plug everything back in. I am confident in this fix as it updates the usbaudio.sys file to version 6.0.6000.20539. Unfortunately, the patch is only available through request from MS. here's the link to the KB article

I suspect that it's the headset and not vista, because my built in sound card for the laptop (a realtek hi def) works perfectly fine. If it is the headset, it will just have to be an inconvenience till i get a new headset.
