It's a fact of life, humans learn through mistakes (or at least some learn). I think most of what I've shot is pretty awful, but I keep at it anyway. I wouldn't fault your technical ability, but the two examples you posted are pretty static. The B&W conversions are an improvement over the distractingly bright colors, but the tight crops eliminate context. How and why these objects fit into their surroundings should tell a story and that's missing from these two shots.
