Just get your ticket? Let us know here!

Suggested by sporkme See Profile, this is a thread for those who might have come here and gotten interested, and/or those who have just been newly licensed. It would be great to keep track of our members and visitors who checked out the forum and subsequently received their tickets.

Maybe evilghost See Profile can kick it off by adding a post here about he and his dad just getting licensed.

Re: Just get your ticket? Let us know here!

Excellent, HF can be a lot of fun and it doesn't have to take fancy antennas and radios to enjoy. Propagation seems to be improving weekly.

Now on to the Extra?

Going to Hamvention next year?

Hello Everyone,

I took my Technician Class Exam on 3/29 and received my license on 4/3. I am now studying for my General Class license and am planning to take the test for it on 4/29.

Old Ham and new Ham
Hi there.
Had my novice back in the mid 70's, but due to circumstances back then let it expire.
Recently got the bug again, took the test, and was issued KD8IIB on April 10th.

My new callsign now shows up in the ULS....

I am now W0LKC.

Many years ago, I got my ticket in Canada as VE6LKC. Have both Basic and Advanced qualifications up there (which makes me fully qualified.)

I became less active though after working a flood in '95 (next time I'll try not to discount the importance of my getting sleep and food during it), and even more so when I ceased to be a home owner (and moved to the US [in '98], when I stopped completely....on account the regs say a US citizen in the US needs a US license.)

I only just got around to taking exams to get a US license...passed Technician on June 1st, passed General on June 22nd. Plan to study, and try for Extra ... possibly the next time a test session rolls around.

I had tried General when I wrote Tech, and with no studying for it...I only missed it by 2. I was asked if I wanted to try for Extra after I passed my General, but choose not to. Since the test was about to change, and I was fairly sure that I wouldn't pass.....had done a practice one and only gotten 48%.

Actually, before I wrote the Tech, I had done a practice General online...and also missed it by 2.

Anyways...soon after I got my sequentially assigned FCC callsign, I put in a vanity callsign application....

I did check in a few times to local 2m nets using the previous FCC callsign (KD0EFR). Now I'm waiting for the next 2m net to announce my new callsign

FWIW, I largely motivated into getting a license after a ice storm last winter. Sitting around in the dark with no power, no light, no heat, and no Internet, I started reading through the Technician study book.

Congrats Subaru!!!

KB1 Quebec-XRay-Oscar, sounds like a mighty fine call to listen for on the bands!!

The phonetics there sound VERY distinct, I think you will find that call to be excellent for Contesting and Weak Signal work.

In addition to just talking on the local repeaters that is..

I passed all three elements tonight.
The VEs said I was the second one to pass all the elements with one test fee in last 6 months. I also got to be the first person to take and pass the updated Extra test in the group.

Should have my Extra call sign by the end of the week.

Best of luck to all who are studying.

Well, it's kind of like being a rookie and winning the MVP and super bowl. No where to go but down

Congratulations!!! That's quite an accomplishment to be proud of. Let us all know when you show up in the FCC database with that shiny new call sign.

As for me, if nothing grabs too much of my time between now and the test, I'll shoot for Sept when the next test is given in my area and if not, the following month. We'll see how it goes. But I sure can't match the hat trick you just pulled off. Congrats again!

Thanks all, never did I think the wait for my call sign would be so painful.
Looks like I should be getting it assigned on Monday or Tuesday.

Doing the research I would venture getting assigned AJ4K*.

Cool beans. Sites like QRZ.com should pick it up tomorrow. I'll listen for you on HF. Seems we usually have a good opening on 20m between FL and NJ (when I get back there).

Only minor issue I have right now is lack of every thing.

Only thing I have is an IC-91AD, the D-Star concept caught my interest.

It's a slow process first I need to get my hands on a little spending money and then on to find some HF gear.

Re: Just get your ticket? Let us know here!

My first HF unit was a loaner from a friend. He also provided me a G5RV wire antenna that he had, a power supply and an antenna tuner. Might be worthwhile asking if anyone has one they aren't using.

Some 17 years ago I sat down (twice) and took the test to get a no-code tech. The first test kicked me in the rear, simple little phrases like "Broadcast" Where I come from (commercial radio) to broadcast is a good thing, apparently not in the HAM world. So I had to study a bit to get up on terminology of the HAM world and I finally scraped by. (actually got though written to Advanced at that time).
So finally after 17 years as a tech, I decided to upgrade (now that I don't have to repeatedly prove that my code speed is still 0 WPM). After glancing at some of the study material in January I took the test again a couple weeks ago and upgraded to general, but fell short by 2 questions of extra. Today another testing was offered and yes.. I'm now officially at the Extra level, Extra what I'm not sure, but I'm Extra... ( so now you get to "read all about it")
Of course now I still need to figure out where I can go with my "new privileges" of either General or Extra. I have an HF radio (Yaseu 747) that I bought years ago to use as a generator for commercial work. I know it's not the best, but it'll give me something to play with for a while. I guess I might want to find the mic for it, I only ever used the MOX button.

The SAARS club »www.saarsham.net/ offered the testing during their field day activities this morning. I did stick around a bit and check a few antennas they were putting up with my Power AIM-120 "antenna analyzer" so it was a fun day.

Re: Just get your ticket? Let us know here!

Actually I am studying for Extra now. I started 7/1 and ace'd Tech/General 7/11 but decided against going to Extra at the same time, just too much material in two weeks
