Is this the complete listing of Cox DNS servers that the end-user can see? I ordered it alphabetically based on, which I assume, is a two-letter city designation.

No, just building a list of DNS servers of Cox. I was working on my two DNS servers and started to wonder what DNS servers Cox uses.

I went the DNS FAQ for this forum and it was blank, so I did a search on Google and it turned on the original list that I posted. I then went and looked and found a lot were not on that list so I started this thread to see what other ones were out there.

Why did I do it?
•Fun
•Our Cox DNS FAQ is empty
•So that I can update the forwarders on my DNS servers to my ISP's DNS servers

Based on what I'm reading here it looks like Cox may be consolidating DNS? Omaha, Oklahoma, and Tuscon using the same "cnds" servers. Can anyone who is using those servers confirm that they're using the DNS redirection crap for mistyped URL's?

I've contacted the Cox DNS Server List FAQ and made him aware of this thread so it can be updated:
»Cox HSI Forum FAQ »What are the names and IP addresses of the Cox DNS servers for manual setup

I've always wanted a list of the Cox DNS servers. This is a great idea adding it to the Cox FAQs.

Also, it would be nice if Cox could update us when they change DNS servers, too.... (and why)

Thanks for the post, exocet_cm!

Thanks, SoonerAl See Profile, that confirms what I thought. I switched to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 when they started this a while back.

Wow, apparently Baton Rouge and New Orleans has more DNS servers than the two listed, bold are the new DNS servers I found:

68.109.202.20
68.109.202.23
68.109.202.24
68.109.202.25
68.109.202.29

68.109.202.30

Though the 24-29 list as "proxy.[two city letter designation].cox.net" in different areas. I probably would not rely on those for DNS as Cox might be using these for something else and probably not dedicated DNS resolution, but only a Cox rep could tell us.

DNS 1: 68.105.28.12
DNS 2: 68.105.29.12
DNS 3: 68.105.28.11

Those are the ones I'm being assigned, but I don't see any redirection pages.

Yeah, those are the ones posted by AnonInTuscon with the cdns prefix.

Looks like they are also showing up in California as well, and three more to go with em.

OpenDNS is very nice. I have a handful of Cox DNS on my DNS server, then open DNS

Curiously it looks like most of these servers are either in Atlanta or Dallas, if the routing is to be believed.

FWIW, I just switched from the Cox default DNS servers to 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 as a test and web surfing seems a bit more snappy (how's that for technical term) to me. Maybe its just my old imagination though...

There is really no reason for a FAQ or anything else on the Cox DNS Servers. Cox uses DHCP and those local DNS Severs will populate the router/internal TCP/IP connection automatically.

There already was an FAQ on Cox DNS servers.
A thread on Cox's DNS servers would fall under the category of "Tech" and "Cox", both recommended for this site and forum, respectively. I see no reason that this thread shouldn't exist unless somebody has a problem with DNS servers being listed, and even then it is public knowledge (open up your TCP/IP settings).

If this thread shouldn't exist then delete it, but it is already #1 on Google out of 928,000 sites:
»www.google.com/search?q= ··· irefox-a
and I've replicated it on my website; »johnball.wordpress.com/2 ··· servers/
I think it would be more of a disservice to not have this listing.

This is my opinion, but I have a feeling you are against this thread Irish Shark See Profile guessing from your first post and then your follow up post. I would really like to know why...

I really don't care about this thread. It just seems to a waste of bandwidth. And as stated above a FAQ is not necessary since Cox uses DHCP.
