No, just building a list of DNS servers of Cox. I was working on my two DNS servers and started to wonder what DNS servers Cox uses.

I went the DNS FAQ for this forum and it was blank, so I did a search on Google and it turned on the original list that I posted. I then went and looked and found a lot were not on that list so I started this thread to see what other ones were out there.

Why did I do it?
•Fun
•Our Cox DNS FAQ is empty
•So that I can update the forwarders on my DNS servers to my ISP's DNS servers

Wouldn't affect us powerusers as we use alternative DNS solutions.

OpenDNS is very nice. I have a handful of Cox DNS on my DNS server, then open DNS

There is really no reason for a FAQ or anything else on the Cox DNS Servers. Cox uses DHCP and those local DNS Severs will populate the router/internal TCP/IP connection automatically.

There already was an FAQ on Cox DNS servers.
A thread on Cox's DNS servers would fall under the category of "Tech" and "Cox", both recommended for this site and forum, respectively. I see no reason that this thread shouldn't exist unless somebody has a problem with DNS servers being listed, and even then it is public knowledge (open up your TCP/IP settings).

If this thread shouldn't exist then delete it, but it is already #1 on Google out of 928,000 sites:
and I've replicated it on my website; »johnball.wordpress.com/2007/11/1···servers/
I think it would be more of a disservice to not have this listing.

This is my opinion, but I have a feeling you are against this thread Irish Shark See Profile guessing from your first post and then your follow up post. I would really like to know why...

I really don't care about this thread. It just seems to a waste of bandwidth. And as stated above a FAQ is not necessary since Cox uses DHCP.

Then don't visit it, problem solved. Whether or not Cox uses DHCP to assign DNS servers is irrelevant to the point of this thread.

Typical response. What is the purpose of this discussion?

I find it kind of funny you claim you "really don't care about this thread" but yet you keep popping up in it. Unfortunately for you, you're not the moderator here and it doesn't really matter if you think this thread is worthwhile, or worthless. As I said before, if you think this is a waste, then go somewhere else and quit thread crapping here.

One thing this discussion has yielded us is evidence that Cox is consolidating its DNS servers into one or two data centers rather than having them local to each system. That's interesting, and maybe you don't think that's worthwhile to know, but others here disagree.

I also think it is pretty damn cool when many users pull together, even an anonymous poster, and we determined what BillRoland See Profile said about the consolidation.

At least I learned something new, and I hope others here have as well.

Thanks to EVERYBODY, regardless of opinion, that contributed to this thread. I hope that our work was worthwhile and some mod or FAQ editor finds it important to save this work.
Thank you to everybody who contributed, even our anonymous friend!
