·Verizon FiOS
| Bad as a landline... worse than a cable company.. This will make people REALLY think before taking that "VIDEO" cable-tv plunge as a Verizon-TV customer. I say boycott the TV service for now, do not feed into these price increases by paying any and all costs the company wants to throw out there!
The more their cable-tv service lags behind internet and phone service, the more pressure there will be to reverse course on these ridiculous added costs of tv service much in the same way Verizon quarters and dollars you (yesteryear's nickels and dimes) for every dollar they can get their greedy red hands on with landline phone service (aka POTS).

Current FiOS TV customers -- and any customer who signs up by January 18, 2008 -- will not see a rate increase until January, 2009.
Furthermore, if you call tomrrow and agree to a two year contract, your FiOS TV Premier rate will not go up until November, 2009.

They have 2 year bundle plans as well that are guaranteed locked-in prices for the term of the contract. VZ is not giving you a 13 month notice as much as they are simply guaranteeing your business as their income for the next year or two.

With Comcast, customers without any commitment get notified a month or two in advance of price increases.
With Verizon, current customers without any commitment are being notified that their rates under their current plan will not increase until January, 2009.

Verizon customers get a years notice on price increases. Comcast customers get 2-3 months, if that.
| | | | | | | | Re: Bad as a landline... worse than a cable company.. a year notice? Re read that article sir. You have your facts wrong. Yes, customers who sign a contract will delay their price increase... those that do not have just received a 2-3 month notice of a price increase. That doesn't matter to you though, since cable is just OH so bad and Verizon is the greatest monopoly around. -- three6ohchris | |

Without a commitment... Verizon's words are empty promises. Wait until January 2009 to see if that will really be the next rate increase.

I read through the notice Verizon sent out. It says the opposite. It says that current customer will have a price increase in January 2008, but a smaller price increase than new customers. If they commit to a contract, they will have no price increase until January 2009, but if they do not commit to a contract they will go to 2008 rates immediately upon any change in service. Since Verizon is adding HD services next year, that increase will occur well before January 2009. As well, since Verizon is not cable regulated, they do not have to provide 30 days notice of changes in service. -- ISCABBS - the oldest and largest BBS on the Internet telnet://bbs.iscabbs.com Professional Geographer Geographic Information Science researcher

| Yeah, you show them. Boycott their TV service. Send the cable company more money per month. That'll show em.
Stoooopid.
You go where you save money. If it is FiOS this year and cable next so be it. If FiOS is the cheaper alternative you do it. You really want to make a stand and spend more money per month? Help yourself.
I can tell you for a stone cold fact that the FiOS TV lineup has what I care about and would be cheaper over the course of the 2 years than my local cable company. Not by enough that would make me switch on price alone, but I wouldn't boycott it over a rate increase. The cable and satellite guys do that to you know.
