Re: have you heard about TP-LINK dsl modem/router?

they are added to gentek list as well:

Due to the phenomenal success and overwhelming demand for the TP-Link TD-8610 ADSL 2/2+ modem, Gentek will be expanding the TP-Link product line by introducing four new cost-effective Broadcom chipset based ADSL 2/2+ modem/routers in November. The new units will include the TD-8810 (single Ethernet port ADSL 2/2+ modem/router), TD-8811 (single Ethernet/USB combo ADSL 2/2+ modem/router), TD-8840 (four port Ethernet ADSL 2/2+ modem/router) and the TD-8910 (four port Ethernet ADSL 2/2+ modem/router with 54Mbps 802.11g wireless Access Point).

We've had a few users try these modems from us and they said it works fine. We've also tested it out here at our office. Not bad for the price but than again that is my opinion only .

Re: MATRIX table for various DSl modems

Hey Macedon,

Great work finding the different ADSL chipsets used by various ADSL modem/routers.

I've always wanted to find out what chipset the D-link DSL-2320B uses, but so far all my research failed...care to have a crack at it?

Thanks.

Re: MATRIX table for various DSl modems

Are you looking at the GUI from the online emulator from Dlink's website?

If it is so, then it doesn't say at all which chipset is inside.

I think I've made my mind on my modem purchase.
Aside from the 2wire modem, the Speedstream series are known to work better on marginal lines than the Speedtouch, I will grab a Speedstream 4200 and test it myself.

The Dlink DSL-2320B is quite new, so not that many guinea pigs yet.

Re: MATRIX table for various DSl modems

I emailed Canadian tech support
Lets see if they`ll give some info...

--------
my best guess is they are using broadcom chip
I agree, i already told my friends to look for reasonably priced SS5200 or SS4200

i asked in Sympatico direct forum, if i can buy the modem (SS 5200) back, but the answer is no.

Re: MATRIX table for various DSl modems

Just becareful when picking up a used SS5200, make sure it is version E242 and not E240.

With the proper firmware, you can restore the E242 to support ADSL2+ (crippled by Bell firmware).

Although the SS5200 E242 or the SS4200 don't support Annex M, I don't see Annex M supported by Bell anytime soon. So far only the Europeans and the Australians have deployed ADSL2+ Annex M. In North America, this addendum to the G992.5 protocol has seen a very slow adoption.

Oups!  Maybe a better place for a reply to my
previous post would be here, euh...  So, what about a
SS4200-D241 review?

Euh...  Title mess again!

Please, lets start a thread of your own with SpeedStream
4200-D241 in the title or something and tell us how it is!

This is a really cool little app.
It is very useful/helpful if you want to switch from one connection protocol to another and you don't want to "waste" your time going thru 192.168.1.1

fast, simple and effective.
==================================================
CONCLUSION:

The TP-LINK DSL modem/router is a good product (great value for your money = DSL MODEM + ROUTER). Its DMT accessible as well. Has great GUI (detailed dsl stats as well)

Cost is 30 bucks for a new unit (tax included). I was lucky to grab this unit from a whole seller. (NO I DONT SELL THIS UNIT or anything else for that matter )This is not a promo, just my opinion. I just wanted to share my experience, since there is a gap when it comes to TP-LINK in Canada.

It will perform very well if you have good (clean) line, same (or at least close to the) behaviour as SpeedTouch lines of DSL modems.

Again, this confirms that if you have bad (marginal) line, you can get more out of your line (speed wise) by using SpeedStream 5200, 4200* and/or 2wire**

--------
*(**)
i haven't tested SS 4200 or 2wire personally, but the major consensus on this forum is that they will perform better under marginal conditions.

cheers,

I got a 8610, it came with the same accessories but I find weird that it didn't had a warranty leaflet. Do you know what is the warranty on this thing?

hmmm i missed this haven't i?

sorry for the late reply, but to answer your question no it doesn't have warranty pamphlet

but i have the contact for their main wholesaler for Canada, they are based in Markham, Ontario; if you have problem they might able to help you out. Let me know.

Also i have attached a price list for various TP-LINK items as emailed to me by the wholeseller

Where can I purchase this brand? Does the wholesaler sell to individuals?

Can you confirm Annex M support?

Also, where did you get the chart for various chipsets used in DSL modems? Is there a longer list available?

Thanks

i bought my "sample" modem from:
»www.trendnet.ca/ (cash, about $30 or so )

These guys have been "squeezed out" from the TP-LINK official distribution list. I don't advise you to buy from here ( i didn't care cause i just wanted to try the modem)

the info i send you is for the wholeseller, different company (don't want to advertise them here). They are the official distributor for tplink products (i have confirmed this with Tracy Yang from TP-LINK Technologies Co. Ltd, China over email)

So you might try to contact them to get your modem.

cheers,

Re: have you heard about TP-LINK dsl modem/router?

Hi,

If it happens that Spansion's S29AL016D Flash chip
is equivalent to AMD's 29LV160D then the 'DeBrick'
EJTAG utility initially released by HairyDairyMaid
which Cidi Rome modified lately (v4.8a) to support
the BroadCom BCM6338 chip would also work with it,
meaning a TP-Link MoDem can now be "De-Bricked"...

Thank you for all the info

In the Dlink DSL-2320B, there is a page where you can enable Annex M: »www.support.dlink.com/emulators/···lcfg.htm

It uses the same BCM6338 chipset as the TP-Link 8810 but is there a similar page in the 8810's setup?

Also, any idea what chipset the TD-8816 uses? On their page it looks basically identical to the 8810 except the model number: »www.tplink.com/products/product_···p?id=151

In the manual the web setup looks totally different, similar to Linksys routers.

BTW, if one searches for TP-Link in google, the results show that TP-Link's websites have malware in them!

What is all that about?

I own a modem that uses the BCM6338 chipset, the VersaTek Versa Xpress ver170p. I believe that the SpeedStream 516 also uses the same chipset. It seems to be quite decent, although I overpaid for it (MSRP on my modem is $35, I paid $80).
