| Gearing up for Kara
So my husband and I are kind of getting sick of the same old stuff and are looking at getting into a larger guild who have several Kara groups. I have a few in mind, but I want to be as prepared as I can before I go into it. We never really had time for end game pre-BC so this is definitely a first for us. I want to be as prepared as I can be (we're both fairly decent at playing our classes solo/duo/5 man) but gear is a bit of a challenge since I have NO idea what I am in for. Any suggestions?

Im not scared of any suggestion, I just hate the thought of spending time/gold on gear that I wont use. -- The Kingdom |

| I'd suggest the wow forums.
At least for Hunters and Paladins (the two classes I play) there are some pre-raid/pre-kara guildlines posts that outline suggested minimum stats and gear.
Granted you could wear absolutely nothing and get through kara with 9 strong players. So gear isn't all that necessary if your guild already has it on farm. |

| reply to The Chick Four interrelated suggestions:
1. A Kara-raiding guild would be impressed by a player with at least a blue in each slot.
2. I like to use the Armory's "Suggest an Upgrade" feature to see where I might be able to find better gear.
3. Heroics are a good way to get geared up for Kara. You might not want to run heroic Arcatraz yet with +577 damage, but it might be worth running heroic Slave Pens to try to get the Mage-Fury Girdle to replace your Ethereal Sash.
4. Crafting is a good entree into Kara, too. As a holy priest the Primal Mooncloth and Whitemend sets made me a viable healer for Kara-level difficulty.
Good luck! -- Verizon FIOS |

| reply to The Chick Run the five mans and grab the dungeon set 3 armor for your class. Different pieces drop from different places. I had three pieces of the warlock armor when I started Karazhan (plus a few other nice pieces that dropped in those instances). The biggest issue is, if either of you is a tank you'll want to make sure you are well geared in blues. Got to be able to take the hits from the raid bosses. For healers, it's mostly about a respectable number of +heal. For dps there's a little more leeway. Undergeared dps really won't be a huge issue until Shade or maybe Curator. -- What's certain about Darwinism is that it would take less time for (1) a single-celled organism to evolve into a human being through mutation and natural selection than for (2) Darwinists to admit they have no proof of (1) - Ann Coulter |

| Yeah, for Hunter's the Dungeon 3 set is Beast Lord.
The OP's feral druid husband will probably skip on the Dungeon 3 set for tanking as the leather set is made for rogues/kitties instead of bears.
The Heavy Clefthoof crafted leatherworker gear (leggings, boots, vest) is good for bear tanks and fairly inexpensive. The Earthwarden 2H Mace from Exhaulted Cenarion Expedition rep is excellent and usually an easy to finish reputation. He can also pick up the Verdant Gloves from a quest chain ending in Akama's Promise (which is required for BT attunement). |

| reply to The Chick If you're going to start raiding, for you(warlock) the first thing I'd seriously consider doing is dump mining and pick up tailoring if you're willing to spend the time, money and effort and create the frozen shadoweave set. Move your mining to an alt if you have one. If you don't want to pick up tailoring, then work towards the oblivion set; and watch and check for the best ways to maximize your dps within the minimal pre-kara gearing curve that you have available.
For him as mentioned by other people, the tanking stuff + earthwarden you can also use this list as a baseline in gearing. Especially since it lists all items and where to get them including what quests.
There used to be a full 22k armor/12khp 35% dodge pre-kara list I had somewhere but I'm not where it went; But it may be floating around on the wow druid forums somewhere too.

| If you can afford it, picking up the FSW is great. I am the main alchemist/herbalist in our guild, and couldn't really afford to drop either early on. Now that I can, the cost/benefit payoff just doesn't pencil out for me.
I'm not sure what the demand is for raiding demo locks on your server, but they aren't in high demand on mine. You might want to consider a different spec. I respecced affliction with the change in destro, and it's treated me good. I still miss my felguard tho |

| reply to The Chick You definately want to invest in a Frozen Shadoweave Set. It's just as good as some T5 stuff. You will also want to get more +hit gear as well to increase your chances to hit. -- Mac Chatter »www.macchatter.net |

| reply to The Chick People may say I'm wrong but hey fork them. In my mind when it comes to raiding DPS people do not have to have a huge gear check like healers and tankers. Get some blues and you'll be a-ok.
Like some others said get some of your Dungeon set and you should be good to go. |

| reply to The Chick There is a chain that is started in kara ironically that lets you summon nightbane, you need to do heoric sethekk, and heroic shattered halls. You need people geared for this to do the last half of kara anyway so heroics are where to gear up, mostly blues won't make it past the first half unless they are being carried by other players. |

| reply to The Chick Frankly I'm of the opinion that kara is the new UBRS. Its not terribly gear dependent and knowing how to play is much more valuable to a raid than any blue gear u can get in a 5 man.
I would suggest you visit the class forums for your respective classes as well as the wowwicki. As a hunter I can't stress enough the importance of macros and specifically a macro for a shot rotation. I run the simplest of shot rotations with a macro and I am consistently #1 on the dps meter in Kara.
Its a no brainer that you get what gear you can through 5 mans when you're not raiding but gear is not the best way to improve your gaming performance overall. |
