 | Switching to Teksavvy (Sympatico Throttle) After 7 years of loyalty to Sympatico, I am thinking of switching to Teksavvy.
Reasons for leaving are due to:
#1. Billing Errors
and the straw that broke the camel's back.
#2. Sympatico throttling torrents. (and affecting some other apps I use (VoIP, Gaming)
My question is. and I need quite a few replies before I leave Sympatico. Is there any throttling of any sort using Teksavvy's network? Is everyone happy with torrenting on this ISP's network?
If no problems.. then I am signing up ASAP.
Thanks in advance. |

| reply to ExSympatcioEmp I canceled my sympatico and signed up for Teksavvy on Friday.
For some reason my bell account is still active (will have to call back on that one), but I was able to use both the Teksavvy and bell account.
I opened a torrent program and logged onto teksavvy. I watched speeds of up to 500kbps download. I disconnected teksavvy and connected to bell. I watched my downloads be capped at 30kbps...
So no as of right now teksavvy does not throttle torrents, and 100% yes, Bell does throttle torrents.
Hope this helps. |

 | reply to ExSympatcioEmp Done. Signed up
I have been hearing nothing but praise. Minus the occasional downtimes. |

Happy to hear that you've signed up ExSympatcioEmp, just to confirm we currently are not throttling anyone for anything, and we have absolutely no plans to do it in the future.
Cheers,

Thanks TSI, here's hoping I double the years I had with Sympatico (10+) with you guys. |

I should be wired to go as of Nov 27th So you're going be signed up to TSI and Bell at the sametime? I asked the guy if I could do that but he said the two services couldn't overlap and i'd have to wait till my Sympatico account switches off before i'd be able to start using TSI. |

There is always the scare of the line card being pulled in error so we don't generally recommend having the service active at the same time (ie: sympatico cxld date: 12/31/2007 and TSI Activation: 11/30/2007)
Alternatively we usually recommend: (Bell deactivation: 12/31/2007, TSI Activation: 12/31/2007 and start using TSI Login about 2-3 hours after you have it lol)

| reply to ExSympatcioEmp I was planning on overlapping by a few days just to make sure they didn't pull the line card and to ensure that, if there are slight problems, there wouldn't be an interruption.
Are you saying there's a high chance of Bell pulling the line card if I activate Teksavvy 3-5 days before my Bell account is deactivated? |
|
 | reply to TSI Rick hehehe, ExSympatcioEmp, I'm in the same boat as you, 7 years myself at Sympatico, same problems and that ends next tuesday, already registered with Teksavvy this week, I dealt 3 times with their representatives (more than once only cause of certain things I needed to check)and each time they we're great, polite, helpful in more ways than one, even fun I might add and especially knowledgeable, you didn't feel like you we're talking to the guy in the basement who just doesn't give a...
Had I known about them sooner, I would have left sympatico years ago, I already feel in good hands with them |

I can't guarantee 100% but if I were to take a guess, they're on about a 1 in 5 for being pulled in error, in which case we can usually get it reinstated within a few days.

| reply to ExSympatcioEmp Wow that's a pretty high percentage of cards being pulled "in error". Here's the part I don't understand - if I activate my teksavvy account the same day that my Bell account will be deactivated and they pull my card, I would have to wait at least a few days to get it reinstated unless of course that's not possible in my case.
If I activate my teksavvy account 5 days before my Bell account is deactivated and the line card is pulled, are they still able to pull the line card if it's been in use for 5 days by another ISP? |

TSI RickSystem AdminPremium,VIP join:2007-02-17 Merlin, ON kudos:2 | reply to Rastan Unfortunately it does happen. The way we normally describe it as:
Tech A receives an order to install service and goes to wire the slam, he gets there and sees the port is already wired and ready to go. Closes the report saying customer is online and good to go.
Tech B receives a report 2 days, a week, a month, a year down the road to disconnect service, he then goes there sees that there is indeed someone plugged into that port and disconnects them. He doesn't know which ISP is using it, all he knows is that there was supposed to be an ISP using and it and now there is an order to remove.

Jabus join:2002-11-24 Mississauga, ON 1 edit | reply to Sanny8 Yeah, what ended up happening was I got a call back explaining that the previous situation would cause an abnormal interruption and James suggested I stay on Sympatico until they deactivate it (Dec 21) to avoid minimum disruptions. Guess I got a bit ahead of myself.
Yay honesty. |

Re: Switching to Teksavvy (Sympatico Throttle) Your two reasons are exactly why I am calling to cancel my Sympatico this morning.
I will be switching to Teksavvy as soon as Bell allows. |
|
 | reply to TSI Rick An error rate of 20% is very high. Isn't there a way for the tech to know whether or not the card is in use? |
