That's it. I just found the microsoft KB article that explains how to do that. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

By default it should use both since it appears to the OS as 2 CPUs. XP and later have some more sophisticated detecgtion and process scheduling for multi-core, but it should utilize both cores under 2k as well.

If this was an existing machine that had a single core machine that had its CPU upgraded you will need to switch the OS from a uniprocessor setup to a multiprocessor setup.

Is there a Windows2000 update to allow it to run dual core processors in dual core mode?

That is utilizing both cores rather than running them only as if they were a single core cpu.

A) the AMD Opties or AM2's?

B) the Intel Core2Duo's?
