rename domain

we have the following 1 webserver, 1 exchange 2003 server, 1 sql 2000 server and 2 domain controllers. All servers are running 2003 server and i need to change the domain name. How hard is this to do?

And how can i go about doing it? Is there a tool?

Also will i have to make any changes to sql and exchange?

the only possible way is to demote all your DC's (that will also wipe your users) and then promote them to the new domain..

then you will have to take every computer and server that is part of the old domain, switch them to a workstation the join them to the new domain...

There isnt a tool, or a trick..

good luck

Yes it can be done. Yes there is a tool. No, it's not pretty or recommend.

»technet.microsoft.com/en-us/wind···948.aspx

Tools and info on the right side of the page.

Here is some Exchange 2003 specific information as well:

As far as what needs to be done for SQL, I don't know.

Live with the name or migrate (cleanly) to a new domain. Nothing good long-term comes from renaming a domain.
