| wrt54g v5, what 3rdparty firmware for WOW, or how to config?
So, I need several computers connecting to the router in various ways, wired and wireless, to be able to play WOW. From googling, it seems like to config the linksys frmware to allow access to WOW requires configuring static IPs, and will only work for one computer at a time anyway, because the port forwarding is IP specific. Configging the computers with static IPs is not really workable solution, as the computers are all laptops which get used elsewhere, and several people need to be able to connect. I'd like firmware that just lets me let any computer on the network that wants to connect to the World of Warcraft servers do so. My concept of how this would likely work is that it would just forward whatever ports I set it to, for any and all computers on the network that send data via those ports. If there's some way to get the linksys firmware to let multiple computers connect to WOW, I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise, I'd love suggestions as to which of the third party firmwares (that works on the v5) will let multiple computers connect to WOW. | You don't have choice of 3rd party firmware on a V5 - its dd-wrt via a fairly risky vxworks-killer process only AFAIK.
I don't know WOW but have managed to get multiple on-line games working before (with Linksys or Hyperwrt firmware) - but this required configuration on each machine as well as the router - not automatic.
Fundamentally you cannot forward the same ports to multiple devices. You need to look at port-triggering and UPNP to see if it can now do what you want. |

| reply to Hel I am not sure what you are trying to say here about WoW. I have 4 accounts playing at the same time on my network with no problems what so ever. I have 2 wired and 2 wireless, and no special settings were required on the router. Three computer are set to use DHCP from the router and 1 is set static (filtering the kids computer) What are you trying to map on the router? |

I'm saying that with the factory default settings, with just wi-fi security enabled and the SSID renamed, no one can play WoW. I tried setting up port forwarding, port triggering, I even tried putting one of the several computers into the DMZ, still no one can connect. I never had any problems connecting to anything I ever did, but I can't get WoW to work for my roommates. I googled to find out what ports it needed, but there is nowhere I can configure anything in the router with those ports that WORKS.
