"The product was aborted by the product's postsession callback and a unique error wasn't set."

I give that the 1st place award of the year for "most unhelpful and uselss error message" lol

( Update )

My NIS 2007 updated overnight to the virus definitions of the 23 can't tell you when.So I am assuming LU is working properly again.

My NAV 2006 is also showing updated with 11/23 definitions. Hopefully LU is working correctly again.

Installing Avenge MicroDefs25 SavCorp10 (1 of 2), failed.
LU1825: LiveUpdate could not understand how to install this update. You may need to get the latest version of LiveUpdate before you can install this update.
Installing Avenge MicroDefs25 SavCorp10 (2 of 2), failed.
LU1825: LiveUpdate could not understand how to install this update. You may need to get the latest version of LiveUpdate before you can install this update.

Installation failed, error summary...
LU1806: LiveUpdate downloaded all of the updates you requested, but all of them failed to install. Please try to get the updates at a later time.

Still no joy with SAV 10.1 I was able to get the updates via intelligent updater, but that's not acceptable.

Woke up to:

Version: 11/24/2007 rev. 3

Ran LiveUpdate and correctly got the message that all Symantec components and products are up-to-date.

Fixed??? Seems that way.

I don't think so, I still get the same error message.

NAV/Live Update does keep around previous virus definitions (I guess as a backup in case something goes wrong with the currently loaded ones).

Anyhow, there's an option under Live Update that will restrict the amount of space it uses as it's 'Update Cache' - by default, it's pretty big - the reason why some of you are seeing up to 1GB of space being consumed by old virus defs. Go into the configuration options of Live Update and change the caches size setting under the 'Update Cache' tab and see if it lowers the amount of wasted space used by old virus definition files. I've set mine to 100MB. Also, note the option to clear the cache as well.

Edit: according to the help file, by default LU allocates 5% of the partition size it's installed on as the cache (they really should set it to a fixed size instead of a percentage)...the smallest size you can set is 10MB.

One solution that often works is to rename the s32luhl1.dll file to - for example - s32luhl1.old and then try again. This usually fixes it.

The s32luhl1.dll file is found usually in your c:\program files\symantec\liveupdate folder. Or, do a search for s32lu*.* in your Windows Explorer search. Rename the s32luhl1.dll file to s32luhl1.old and then try again.

Worked for me
Good Luck.

My version of LiveUpdate doesn't have an 'Update Cache' tab!

That might work, but I don't have that file.

Try installing the latest version:

According to the site, the latest version listed there is 3.2.0.68. However, the latest NAV2008 comes with v.3.4.0.162.

Thanks...but I just ran the version I have and it grabbed and installed today's definition updates w/o a hitch. Given the recent LU problems I'm going to leave things as they are for the time being. If it ain't broke....

With SAV that gets me a message that LuComServer is still running and to wait until it is finished to try running the installation again.

Edit - Well I got fed up and did it the hard way with a complete uninstall using the Norton removal tool and then a clean install. That allowed me to run the update for the "live update" and so far all is well, except for my being thoroughly pissed at Symantec.

There were 2 releases Monday of the daily update files.
Makes sure that all machines have the same update info as posted here: »NAV/SAV daily --- > 26 Nov [ 2nd Daily release]
Also includes link to earlier release Monday for version info.

We had the same problem on over 3000 PCs. 11/21 defintions and the PCs would repeatedly download 4MB to 25MB depending on the SAVCE version of updates. The download goes fine but the installs would fail.

The fix was either a reboot or to stop/start the Symantec Antivirus Service. The next download would go OK.

Ii guess I need to write anpother script to clear some hard drive space.
