I use Adium and Pidgin/Gaim.
Adium is definitely the best IM client have have yet used, it's well polished, stable and a very good feature set. The only drawback... it doesn't run on Windows.

AIM, Google Talk, and Google Hello
People forget that Google runs two chat programs. Google Hello is MUCH faster when sharing files though.

I use Aim and Google Talk for my closest and best friends. Otherwise I use Pidgin (the big brother of Gaim, but I didn't feel marking it as Gaim would be right). It runs a second aim account, Yahoo!, MSN, and ICQ for me in one window I can minimize when Outsiders need to talk to me in real time and not email. |

I voted AIM simply because it was usually the only way I could contact my 'kids' when they were away from home. (Seems everyone used it back then).
VERY rarely even use an IM client these days...suppose I still keep it around, well, 'just cuz'.

Adium, it's the best messenger program I haver ever used, mac only though
On windows I prefer Miranda IM as it has the most eyecandy and tweaking
On linux I use Pidgin which is what Gaim is called now

the only one I use now is Windows Live Messenger (MSN).
Used to be a fan of Yahoo! IM but most of my friends jumped ship to MSN.
