Every new computer I've bought already has a copy of AOL on it. Your re-installing a fresh copy of AOL was redundant.

My advice: Go into Add/Replace programs, delete one of the versions of AOL. Renew the password if necessary. Take two aspirin and write me in the morning.

So I then have to enter the obligatory CAPTCHA letters and numbers, reenter my security question, give my first and last name, and then re-enter a NEW password. This gets me onto AOL. BUT, AOL does not seem to be saving that new password that I just made. So when I log off of AOL or shutdown the computer, the next time I log onto AOL, I have to do this same procedure every time. AOL is not keeping my password or not sending my changed password to their servers. Even the old prior password no longer works.

So I backed up my PC and erased everything, then re-installed everything but also re-installed a fresh copy of AOL. When I tried to get on AOL, it said (as expected) that I need to contain tech support because my password is invalid. I assume that the password file was wiped out by reformatting the hard drive.

Yesterday, I talked to AOL tech support; they reset the password, then I changed it while they were on the phone, and it worked to see if I got the problem of not accepting or not saving passwords. This time it worked. But when I tried to log into my AOL account this morning, it did the same thing.

So I went into Windows Explorer to look at some files:
I have several directories in the My Documents\All Users\AOL directory: one subdirectory called AOL 9.0, the other called AOL 9.0a. Each of these subdirectories/folders contains the same files and folders that appear to be used by AOL.
I then went through logging on and changing my password, and then looking at the date stamps on the files and folders in the AOL 9.0 and AOL 9.0a folders. I see that when I change my password, files in both subdirectorires are affected, but AOL 9.0 seems to change more. I'm wondering if AOL is saving the password to one directory, but looking in the other, so it never sees the change and hence says my password is wrong and that I need to re-enter it?

Or maybe my AOL is not sending the password changes to AOL main site? After all, they can reset it on their end, or something like this.
