jsc @comcast.net | Why should a merger be held up by one state? In Minnesota, RCC has a larger user base and a larger network (both CDMA and GSM) than in Vermont, and to my knowledge, no "consumer activist" group here is opposing the merger. That's largely because in the areas that RCC covers, the alternative is Dobson (now At&t) and they are worse - if that's possible. The customers in MN know this merger will be an improvement over how RCC chose to run the business (minimal technology investments, poor CS, etc) - Maybe not in every way, but in most ways that matter to customers.
Tell ya what, Vermont: let's have VZW and RCC agree to spin the Vermont assets off into a publicly-held trust and you can run your own network. Appoint Bernie Sanders as the CEO. See how well that works out. Maybe they can have a new promotion: a $300 Dyna-TAC 8000X with a 5 year contract. Oh, and $1.50 per minute roaming rates.
