Just wondering if others experience this

Hi, just a question of how many of you have ever or still do work for a supervisor and or company that is clueless on how to take care of work tickets?

Example: I and another network tech get sent out on jobs to either rebuild or a new install, then when its about 90% (some times its around 60% complete) complete they want to pull us off the job and send us on piddly stuff, powersupply issues, or malware ect.. Stuff that seems it can wait a day or so?

Or: A person who specializes in a certain aspect of IT, and is going away for 2weeks to a month, and they would like you to take over some of their duties and need to get with them on how they do their job, only to be sent on minor issues and never get full training from this person before they head out the door for awhile, then when this person is gone and you get sent on something that they do only to find yourself a little lost, and your supervisor is getting mad because it took you 4 hours to fix a problem that would only take the main person only an hour to fix.

I am about to loose it, I have been becoming more and more frustrated with the whole situation, that some days I just shut down and stew and pout like a little kid.

I just do not understand how anybody can be hired or promoted into a position that knows so little on how to A: manage and run an IT department,
B: Knows little to nothing technical, ie.. what each tech is or is not capable of, or sends them on a job that they were never intended or hired to do.
C: Has very little respect or understanding of any given situation in regards to current or future customers.
D: Constantly irritating the techs in the dept.

time to quit or move on ... than again if you and your friend are the only ones keeping the place going than you can think of it as job security or still quit and come back as an expensive contractor.

We have been testing the waters on other job possibilities, although we do have job security where we are at, if we left they would be left high and dry with no one to be able to support 90% of the stuff we do, the other 2 techs are mainly A/V and desktop.

Sounds like just the leverage you need to effect some change. Use that to your advantage...

1) If that's actually the case, you have real bargaining power: use it; 2) always remember that nobody is ever, truly irreplaceable. Figuring out how "1" and "2" actually balance out is always a fun game of "who blinks first". If you're going to play that game, it's generally a good idea to already have another job offer in hand.

I agree that I and the other tech are not irreplaceable, to think so would be conceited. We have done the "I'm not happy" routine to get a raise, and to voice our concerns about the work situation and then it will be peachy keen for a few months then its right back to old tricks by management.

As for myself most of the other job offers I have received are either contract work or one that pays considerable less than what I make or one with little to no benefits.

Isn't the New Orleans IT market just grand?

I gave up drinking and eating bad food. And in 14 days, I had lost 2 weeks.
