[Suggestion] Trading Post

Just a suggestion. How bout a stickified trading post thread... similar to ones found in the »Wireless Service Providers forum, and »For Sale/Wanted ??

Something that could be rotated out each couple of months like the one in WISP.. and have nothing but amateur gear in it. Just another avenue for trading gear, and keeps it out of the view of everybody in the For Sale forum. I go on enough fox hunts already, no need to make it easy on em.

What yall think?

I'd also include any radio gear at all, including scanners and SWL equipment.

Don't know how or why I missed the first one, sorry about that. I'll look into this ... it will require some special permission and have to be tightly managed.

Maybe it's more of a feature request, but it would be very nice if Justin hacked things up so that the extra features in the main For Sale/Wanted forum worked within other forums. Many of the "specialty" forums would benefit from that - they have stuff that's of little interest to people outside their forum.

Off the top of my head, I'd say this forum could use it, the Mac guys, the WISP folks, DI folks, Cisco folks, etc.

Some of this is done in the DI forums, I cant see why we couldn't do this here. Being a former for sale forum mod I'm sure I can keep an eye on things if we move forward on this. I doubt much work will be needed though. Especially since most hams follow a higher standard when dealing with their brethren.

Well, if you need any assistance, I'd be willing to volunteer. Heck, I spend enough time here already, might as well be doing something useful eh?

What yall think?
*sign(with strict conditions)*

I would welcome a BBR 'Hamfest' once or twice a year, but only for a limited time(maybe 3-5 days), open to verifiable licensed hams, and no commercial sales allowed.

Beyond that, I would strongly suggest any equipment capable of transmitting to be only available to FCC database verified hams.

I realize the desire of persons studying for the exams wanting to pre-purchase equipment for their future station, but I don't want to see a flood of equipment furthering the desires of persons running an illegal pirate operation.

I still don't know about payment processing, or a grievance process if you don't receive what you expected.

Best run through a payment processor like PayPal. (You don't need to remind me of their added fees)

It could work, but KeysCapt would need to get permission from the higher ups, and be able to put in the time to closely mod the 'Hamfest' thread too.

I would leave it open to further comments though, anything is possible, but this might be left to something already established for this type of operation like Ebay.

Once we can figure this one out, then we can move on to BBR 'Field Day', where we open a thread and see how many hams on BBR can check in during a 24 hour period,
running from 2PM on a designated Saturday, until 2PM Sunday.

We traded equipment on the Hughes Net forum. The forum has no obligation toward the sale or exchange. I would think it would have to be this way. Grievance would be between the buyer and seller period.

But no commerical is good idea and should be strictly enforced.

Verifying a real license is also good, but in real world you can buy anything anywhere without a license. It's not even illegal (last I checked) to own ham gear, just use it without a license. I think having to verify people are real is too much.

I would think a sticky topic that is rotated out once a month so old equipment or requests not filled or sold fall off keeping the sticky fresh. Look at the Hughes Forum for an example.

Stuff like looking for a 10m SSB rig, 10w to 100w, not picky might be a post. Someone might have one for sale.

Or visa versa. I have a 10m SSB rig model XXX for sale.

Any decent ham is incurable, you would end up with more, the more you sold.

A LOOOONG time ago, Amateur radio stores would NOT sell you a transmitter unless you provided a valid license. Then a guy in New York filed a complaint with the FTC over unfair restraint of trade, and they all stopped asking for proof that you had a license.
I don't think the FCC ever required it, but it kept a lot of ham rigs off 11 meters!

Now what is wrong with ham rigs on 11 meters??

Sure it would be stupid to sell such a rig to someone that plans to use it illegally, but at least if they can keep it on 11 meters until they get caught....

Other than the ones that the dumb criminals don't know how to adjust, and end up splattering right on through 10 meters as well.

Let the CB'ers trash 11 meters all they want, that is until they get caught, fined, and even jailed, it's their band after all.

Maybe even a few of them will manage to electrocute themselves with their 5kw linear amplifiers, thus removing themselves from the Gene pool altogether.

My problem is with the pirate CB'ers with Ham rigs on 10 meters.

Those RF Terrorists need to be Fox Hunted down, and be sent off to serve a life sentence in a 'Faraday Caged' prison cell, at either the ADX 'Supermax' prison in Colorado, or Gitmo Bay, Cuba.

Then subject them to the worst torture that could ever be inflicted on a Terrorist 10 meter Pirate,
placing them in a refrigerated isolation cell and forcing them to learn 20WPM Morse Code before they are allowed out.

I know many people who use Ham radios in scan only mode due to the generally better construction, reliability, and audio quality. I have a VX-150 for scanning ONLY

I think verifying licenses is a great idea but ultimatley fruitless...

"Well this guy offered me $1000 so i'll pretend he had a license" things like that would be going on.

Unless you have a third party verify it ten they would be innundated during these field days.

That brings me to the field days in general. Why only have it 2 times per year? Whats wrong with having it continuous and the forum mods lock the thread when sold?

Also let the seller stipulate the payment terms. Maybe have a disclaimer from bbr before posting that bbr is in no way responsible for any of the transaction.

I would love to assist in any way possible... This would give me something to do when sitting in hotel rooms for days on end

EDIT: AND i would like to see it as Radio EQUIPMENT for sale. Radios, scanners, antennas, repeaters. And also a place to link you YOUR OWN ebay auctions.

okay now i think i'm done. Just my $.02
