0x800CCC0F : The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or ISP.

Had that problem on the weekend, so I ended up migrating to the new platform. My guess is they moved me there beforehand.

Hi MTX !

I'm working for Bell Sympatico Tech Support...

You probably have been upgraded to the new platform..
if you're using outlook express...

Set up your account like this :
incoming mail : pophm.sympatico.ca
outgoing mail : smtphm.sympatico.ca

Toggle on the option "My outgoing server requires authentication" , and click Settings. Toggle on : Log on using... and enter your complete email address and password and click ok.

Then change the username for your complete email address and password.

Then click server and toggle on the two squares: My server requires a secure connexion (ssl) and put the Server TimeOuts to the maximum!

You should be fixed with this.

thx, but I am on Outlook 2007 and the instructions you provided to me do not work.

I tried following the instructions on the Sympatico website as well but to no avail.

Re: Is there something wrong with the Bell Outgoing Mail Server?

Your POP3 server should be port 110 not 995....Or at least that is what we use out west....for SMTP...and I use 110 for TSI as well.....

Try changing it and see what happens...

Good luck,

Anytime SSL is turned on (and it's needed for the HM platform) the default port changes to 995 and that's what it should be.

Re: Is there something wrong with the Bell Outgoing Mail Server?

Oh sorry,

Was not aware that Bell was using SSL for email... In that case the port setting is correct.... My bad...

Re: Is there something wrong with the Bell Outgoing Mail Server?

It's my understanding that migrated accounts to the MSN platform don't use the b1xxxxxx ID and password for email, so if you've been migrated you would need the new password for your email account.

KevGib on the outgoing server can you change it from auto to SSL and see if that works.

I don't know if this will help, but,

Whenever I have to use an "@" in Mozilla Thunderbird I get an error with an improper username. I changed the "@" to a "+" because that is how my private email works.

Bingo, no more errors logging in.

By Jan 1st 2008 everyone will be migrated to the new server, they are suppose to send out emails informing people of the new settings, but not everyone gets the email.

new server settings;
incoming server: pophm.sympatico.ca
outgoing: smtphm.sympatico.ca

username = email
passwd = separate from b1 passwd
use ssl for imcoming/outgoing

you can save yourself alot of hassle and upgrade yourself instead of waiting for bell

Re: Is there something wrong with the Bell Outgoing Mail Server?

I got the email - after I managed to get logged into hotmail through the web interface. The only indication that something was going on I had was when my POP3 access stopped working to pop6.sympatico.ca. As I logged into webmail, the migration process kicked in and I went through the password change and profile setup.

When I got to the email, the link for the new settings resulted in a "Page Not Found" error message (it worked a couple days later). I had to search the site to find what I was looking for to get access to my email again.

I had received an earlier email that I was being upgraded, but it indicated 'no changes to my internet' would be required, and didn't mention any changes being required for email settings.

This forced migration has been badly handled, in my opinion.

Thanks that worked.

Never knew username had to be email, thought it was still on b1.

Re: Is there something wrong with the Bell Outgoing Mail Server?

Another question:

My email works fine in Outlook 2007, but incoming does not work via Sympatico Mail / Hotmail. Does anyone know why? Is it because I can only download incoming email off the server once so once I download it from Outlook I can't download it again in Hotmail?

That's correct. Most e-mail software is setup to delete the e-mail off of the server after it has been retrieved. There is an option in Outlook to leave the e-mail on the server. Most people don't want to have to manually delete e-mail off the server, so the way you have it set now is the most common way.

What I do at work is have the e-mail software set to leave e-mail on the server for my home e-mail address, but at home have it set to delete the e-mail from the server once retrieved. That way I can check my e-mail at the office, but then later archive at home so it all stays on one machine. If you want to be able to look at e-mails on your home system from elsewhere you can try some remote access software. You could also set Outlook to not delete e-mail from the server, since Bell now gives people 20GBs, but that means you'll have to login to your e-mail via the web to delete and manage your e-mails. You'll need to move them into folders as Outlook will continually download the same e-mails over again as long as they're in the inbox. You can also stop using Outlook and just view all e-mail via the web, which gives you access from any computer, with the trade off being that it's slower.

So I guess Sympatico is getting out of the e-mail business once and for all, eh?

Don't tell DKS See Profile though. He's liable to go postal.

I had something strange happen with the e-mail upgrade. My primary e-mail address still works fine as always, but my wife's e-mail (secondary e-mail on the same account) stopped working a couple of days ago. The notification about the upgrade came to my address a day later, so I logged into Sympatico Mail using her address and was forced to change her password. I was then able to login and see her e-mail via the web.

Thunderbird still failed to work, so what I had to do was on Server Settings change Server Name to pophm.sympatico.ca, change her User Name to [name]@sympatico.ca and click on the SSL button (which changed the port to 995). For the Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings, I clicked on Edit and changed the Server Name to smtphm.sympatico.ca, changed the User Name again to [name]@sympatico.ca and clicked on the TLS button (otherwise I received a ...TLS error messgage if set to No).

Both when receiving and sending e-mail for the first time I had to enter the new password created on Sympatico Mail, but you just have to check the Remember this password box to hide it permanently.

Well, that's how to set things up in Thunderbird, but oddly enough my primary e-mail account still works with the original settings. I guess it's only a matter of time before they kill that as well, but they really should have sent the upgrade notification beforehand instead of driving me crazy for two nights.

The notification was sent (at least) 30 days before it took place.

It sounds like from a lot of people that no one is getting that upgrade email. And if they do, its a little late.

LOL... Yeah, I just checked my e-mail archives and the notice was from April 14, 2007! Does Bell honestly expect people to remember an e-mail from 7 months ago?

Regardless of what Bell's intentions were, there was no reasonable notice prior to loosing access to my wife's e-mail (30 days would have been nice). All I received was the advanced notice back in April that Bell was upgrading their e-mail service. Also, there are not any instructions on how to change Thunderbird for the new mail servers. How hard can it be to add that to a web page? I managed ok because I'm in IT for a living, but the average customer could end up totally lost if handled in the same manner.

Re: Is there something wrong with the Bell Outgoing Mail Server?

The average customer doesn't use Thunderbird and Thunderbird isn't supported by the Sympatico Helpdesk. If they were to create a page with instructions, that would imply they DO support it and people will call them if for some reason it doesn't work (or they failed to follow the instructions on the page).

As for your wife's email, others here had the same problem, which has since been corrected. However, the fix couldn't be applied to accounts that had already been migrated. Sorry.

Re: Is there something wrong with the Bell Outgoing Mail Server?

Thanks for replying Deadpool. I just checked and my primary account has been upgraded now as well. At least I know what to do this time. Would be nice if Bell would support Mozilla products though. Too many zero day flaws in MS software for my liking.
