The fact that the problem goes un-fixed most certainly IS their fault.
That presumes that something is broken. From TiVo's standpoint, they have no control over the breakage and cannot "fix" it. From the cable company's standpoint, nothing is broken. Again, no one is at fault.

Silly me. I thought providing services the customer wants and therefore pays for was the goal.
That is, as you've tacitly recognized, a naive perspective. The overriding goal of almost all corporations is to make money for their owners.

I've forgotten that in today's pro-business environment consumers are expected to just take whatever is offered, fork over their cash, and shut the hell up.
And it has been this way for at least 25 years, going on 30 years.

As for who the country chooses as leaders, well, I've been in the other camp for years. Personally, I feel we could use sweeping reforms to put consumers on a more even keel with business interests.
I can adjust to that if I have to, but what is most important is consistency. Constantly changing the rules helps no one.

TiVo happens to be a device with USB ports and an Ethernet port, making it capable to communicate back to the cable headend.
The "tuner resolver" will connect to both the cable and the USB port, and will communicate with the head end over the cable. No ethernet port is required. If a cablecard TV has a USB port and the ability to update its firmware, it potentially could be upgraded to handle SDV.

I never said it communicated with the headend over the Ethernet, I know how cable devices communicate with the headend, obviously, it's over the coax.

My point was, that the TiVo has USB ports and Ethernet, while his TV doesn't, which makes it incapable of having a dongle of any kind to allow SDV with CableCard. And somehow he was blaming TiVo for the make of his TV.
