It is nobody's "fault". Each company involved is responsible to its owners, not to pander to our personal demands. It's a bit like saying that it is the bakery's "fault" that muffins cost so much. :rolleyes:

If you want society to work different, i.e., more biased towards the consumer instead of striking a balance between consumer interests and business interests, as is the case today, look very hard at the people you vote for for Congress and the Presidency. For the last 28 years (Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush) our country has overwhelmingly chosen PRO-BUSINESS leaders, not consumerist leaders.

Well it is, and it isn't. The fact that the problem goes un-fixed most certainly IS their fault.
Each company involved is responsible to its owners, not to pander to our personal demands.
Silly me. I thought providing services the customer wants and therefore pays for was the goal. I've forgotten that in today's pro-business environment consumers are expected to just take whatever is offered, fork over their cash, and shut the hell up.

As for who the country chooses as leaders, well, I've been in the other camp for years. Personally, I feel we could use sweeping reforms to put consumers on a more even keel with business interests.

That presumes that something is broken. From TiVo's standpoint, they have no control over the breakage and cannot "fix" it. From the cable company's standpoint, nothing is broken. Again, no one is at fault.

That is, as you've tacitly recognized, a naive perspective. The overriding goal of almost all corporations is to make money for their owners.

I can adjust to that if I have to, but what is most important is consistency. Constantly changing the rules helps no one.
