Whether thru taxes or rates it is the people funding broadband.
AT&T is as subsidized as any foreign entity. The FCC is guaranteeing their existence thru rulings. The US could have as much bandwidth as Europe and AT&T (and others) can afford to do it. Since they have regional monopolies they just don't have to.
Don't think for a minute that government funding is making the difference. It's corporate greed.
