| Who Would Want "For Life" Pricing?
Not me.
Right now, 3.0Mbps down is sufficient for most people, almost all the time. But, is it always going to be like that?
Everyone knows that software and data tends to get more bloated as time goes on, not less.
I would also hope that the price doesn't rise dramatically along with bandwidth requirements, although due to inflation I would expect prices to rise slightly from time to time.
I would strongly suspect that 3.0Mbps down at $28/mo. will be a RIP-OFF in ten years, even if the "for-life" pricing is supposed to ensure just that. |

| I think that's the bet Verizon is making; they'll have something better long before that and they can upsell more expensive services.
It's always more expensive to get new customers than it is to keep the ones you have. This looks like an attempt to keep people around for a few years without hearing too much from them. There's a two year contract, so I have to believe they figure within three years they'll have more compelling offerings rolling about about that time.
Might just be increased DSL speeds, might be fiber.
One thing is certain, consumers always like these "lifetime" offers even though the realistic lifetime is just a few years. |

Everything else that was "good enough" in the past is "good enough" now, or so it seems to me. When I say "past," I mean within the last 30 years or so, so it covers mobile phones and microwave ovens. |
