Just to remind people, in a C9 if you lynch Town on day 1, then the Town is at Lynch-or-Lose on day 2.
How can that be, you say? Town starts off at 5, there is no Doc, so nobody gets protected from Mafia at night.
Lynch -> Town is down to 4 Mafia Kill -> Town is down to 3
Lynch-or-Lose is defined as 1 more Town than Mafia, in the Day phase.
Now I gotta go do my community service for selling those fireworks without a license. Who the hell knew you needed a license? -- Learn To Play DSLR Mafia at the DSLR Games Forum. |

I got completely confused because the subject says C9... but it is really c& since there are only 7 players.. that is why I wanted to look into it. I am fully aware now. |

BigReds42Premium join:2004-07-14 Bellaire, OH kudos:1 | I know C9 is C9... but just assume 9 players (trying to play 3 games at once really sucks... I think we need to rule only two games at the same time lol) |
|
JohnnyPremium join:2001-06-27 Atlanta, GA kudos:1 | reply to kewlkarim "C9" refers to the hexadecimal (base 16) notation for the binary number
11001001
"1100", the first 4 bits, are "C" (12; an eight and a four) in hexadecimal, and "1001", the last 4 bits, are 9 (an eight and a one).
OK, so now we know why it is called C9 - because it means the binary number "11001001" (which is 201 in decimal). But what the hell does "11001001" have to do with Mafia?
Break it down into four chunks of 2 bits each.
11 00 10 01
In order to keep the exact roles from being known, C9 games have one of four configurations:
(All configurations have 2 Mafia)
1 Cop, 1 Doc : "11" No Cop, No Doc : "00" 1 Cop, No Doc (our game) : "10" No Cop, 1 Doc : "01"
Leaving the remaining 3 to 5 players as Vanilla Townie.
The four combinations of Cop and Doc, 11, 00, 10, and 01, together make the binary number 11001001 which in hexadecimal is, you guessed it, "C9." -- Learn To Play DSLR Mafia at the DSLR Games Forum. |

JohnnyPremium join:2001-06-27 Atlanta, GA kudos:1 | reply to Sarah said by Sarah:...which leads us all to realize that this is not actually a C9 but just an open 7-player game. Yeah. I had a whole thing typed up in the signup thread last night about how it wasn't a C9, and then switched pages and it blew away my quick reply box.
Then I saw where you posted about the breaking strategy which I had already included in my vaporware post.
Breaking strategy, except mass roleclaim, won't work without a Doc. |

SarahPremium,ExMod 2002-05 join:2001-01-09 Cambridge, MA kudos:5 | C9 is when people don't know which of the four it is, like Johnny posted.
Johnny, I don't see how a mass roleclaim would help in a game like this since everyone would just say "vanilla townie". -- Killers and liars welcome |

doesn't that make this game a C9 game ? 1 cod, 0 doc ? Not exactly. A C9 has to be announced as "just a C9", not have all the roles revealed. Revealing the roles defeats the purpose of having the four configurations. The purpose of the four configurations is so that the Town does not know if there is a Doc or a Cop or both or neither. Therefore they cannot use the standard Breaking Strategy of having the Cop come out immediately, get Doc protection, and then calmly investigate everyone until he finds Mafia. |
