Re: openSUSE "initializing the installation process" I dont even get to a point to choose what media I want to install to.
I did set the BIOS settings to fail-safe and I got past the "initializing the installation environment" screen to a media check screen where it froze. all drive lights off. i think i will re-burn the install cd with the padding option and maybe at a slower speed too.
Prior to setting the fail-safe in BIOS all boot option (safe mode, without acpi, etc) had same issue.

Windsor, CT | If you still have an issue after reburning the ISO, take some other distro that boots off the live CD and installs off the same one. See if that is successful.
