Apple as a GSM provider ?

HELL YEAH !

I hope they will either bid and get a bunch of spectrum or at least make an alliance with Google so that they bid together for such premium spectrum action !

Time for the other carriers to wake up and start competing. CDMA is dead. GSM is the future (yes yes, LTE). Virizon has seen the light. Sprint is the last of the CDMA Qualcom lackeys.

Google shot down any alliances on their bid. If Apple bids, it won't be with Google.:

Google Inc said on Friday it will bid for coveted mobile airwaves in a move that could pit the Web search leader against U.S. wireless service providers.

The Silicon Valley-based company said it will submit a formal application with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission on Monday.

Google's application to bid for the 700-megahertz wireless spectrum does not include any partners.
Here is the official Google Press Release:

When did Verizon see the light ? Last time I checked their evdo service is better then the 3g network that at&t has.

Got some links I never seen about Verizon suddenly going to GSM in this great frenzy ?

He's talking about VZW using LTE for their 4G network, which is related to GSM.

Sprint has said they're going to use WiMAX, but that might change since the CEO is out of the picture, we'll have to wait and see what the new CEO decides.

CDMA is dead in the form of CDMA2000. The 3GPP W-CDMA implementation is very much alive.

It was posted on this website multiple times. Verizon chose LTE as their 4G network. LTE is the evolution of UMTS aka the evolution of GSM.

Yes, i'm referring to the GSM version of the standard. The Qualcom version is the one that's dead. And thank GOD it is.

Well, hopefully Sprint will see the light too. Wimax has indeed failed to bring anything of relevance into the market. Interoperability is the name of the game. People want open platforms, consumers want freedom to choose their devices and not have the carrier hold their hand. Wimax or the CDMA from Qualcom does nothing of this. GSM is the only standard out there that gives more power to the consumer.

chuck us some speedtests that weren't done sitting next to the cell tower(for GSM/LTE) =I
Last time I checked, LTE tested out at 100 megs at what, like...100 meters from the tower, I believe?
Bsides, it ate up about 20 MHz of spectrum, on a 2.6 Ghz band. Tell me when 2 GHz signals can penetrate buildings and trees, and I will then give up on CDMA.
In short, Sprint is pretty much set to iPaWN AT&T(look at their U-Verse attampt)/VZW(LTE that uses 2.5 GHz bands, combined with avery possible way to rape the consumer)

BTW, want proof of the above? Here's a news flash:
»Nokia LTE Wireless Tests Surpass 100Mbps
many iCheers to all,
