We should all applaud cable for this fight

I constantly bash cable for allowing the channel extortionists to charge whatever they want.

I'm glad the cable industry is finally starting to stand up against these network thieves who think their crap channels are worth millions a month.

Go Cable!

Oh, and news to the Death Star...U-Verse is nothing to brag about.

I'm a very happy cable HSI customer and choose it over FiOS which is also available. I get excellent service, low latency, no nastygrams, decent free unlimited usenet for $2 cheaper than the equivalent FiOS plan. And unlike telco service I have no junk fees, regulatory recovery fees or other bullcrap I had with Verizon DSL. TWC quoted exactly $54.95 per month (for RR Extreme) and I pay exactly $54.95. The service never goes down and despite using hundreds of GB's per month of service I never hear a peep from them except the e-bill I get through Bank of America. That's the way I like it.

And that is running the test on a home computer using remote desktop ware from my office which is why the upload is "only" 1.5Mb (BTMM takes about 400kbps at high resolution with encrytion and it can run the latency up a bit). Normally it's around 1950kbps with 20ms or lower latency. And it's that 24/7/365 and I can run it wide open for days on end and they don't care.

I'm a happy cable HSI fanboi. Now if only TWC video services were as good or fairly priced...

I'm so glad I can't get NFL Network, but 80% of my bills goes for blacks getting to enjoy BET, rednecks to enjoy CMT, Jesus freaks to enjoy TBN, women to enjoy, WE, Oxygen and Lifetime. Must be nice to enjoy channels and have other foot the bill. Enjoy hypocrites.

You realize for $2 more as you say, Fios gives you 15/15 not 15/2. HUGE difference. Apples and oranges really.

Uh, no it's not.

Even with a contract in my area 15/15 is $69 as I'm not a POTS customer so I have to pay an unbundled rate. That's 50% higher, not two bucks.

TWC RR Extreme 15/2 with no contract $54.95 out the door Free install no activation fee

My local FiOS prices

FiOS 1 year minimum contract
Contract cancellation fee for 1 year is $99 for 2 years is $150
FASTER Up to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps $49.99 for POTS customers
FASTER PLUS Up to 15 Mbps/15 Mbps $64.99 for POTS customers
Unbundled price was $5 higher.

No Contract (at the time there was also a $20 activation fee and $79 install fee)
FASTER Up to 15 Mbps/2 Mbps $57.99 for POTS customers
FASTER PLUS Up to 15 Mbps/15 Mbps $72.99 for POTS customers
Unbundled price was $5 higher.

So actually apple to apples Verizon is more than 14% higher (about $8) plus the $100+ in startup fees.

Plus I would have to phone in my order since my address isn't in their online order database yet. You only get the free month promotion if you order online. Then there is the hardware. I'm happy to avoid Verizon's crappy lock up happy Actiontec. The alternative would be to pull a hundred feet of CAT5e from the ONT to my loft where all my crap is. The floorplan of my house makes that extremely difficult. All that hassle just to end up with a 15% higher HSI bill and all the headaches Verizon internet customer no-service is well known for »15/15 to 15/2 Downgrade is Impossible??? No thanks.

FiOS is great when you have no other choice but I'm one of the lucky ones who has an excellent, reliable and better priced alternative.
