| Back to Windows After 10 days I broke down and bought one of those Toshiba laptop specials at Best Buy, 399 for a Celeron M 1.73G 512Mb laptop with built in wireless was not bad. I can use this on the road when I get in my new desktop.
My experience with Ubuntu has been positive yet it still fell short. I like how it automatically found and configured my USB printer and drives. I am please the ease of installing programs, components and handling updates. It very automatic and windows like. Compared this to Debian GNU/Linux which I trash during a failed update. Yes I know Ubuntu is based Debian but it is so much more user friendly.
The negatives I had are the difficulty of installing a wireless card, I gave up and limited multi media support. Not to mention I could not run many application I use for my business.
Some other components.
Thunderbird C- I did not like have to create separate accounts to handle all my email accounts.
Open Office 2.2 c+ to B
The lack of grammar checker in the word processors bothered me. Open Office misses the integration of Office with Outlook. If a user is only going as far as Microsoft Works, do not waste money and just download Open Office. If a user needs something more powerful, stick with Office. |
