For the most part I will crop a photo instead of a zoom. My Raw images are rather large format and it gives me the ability to be more precise in what I want to say with my shots. Some minor tweaking to get what I actually saw in the natural setting as far as tone and range only. I wish I had the Camera and Lens to do the actual photos I wanted rather than PP. But one step at a time. Learn first buy advanced latter.
