best 8600GT card for a quiet PC.

What is the best 8600GT card for a fairlt quiet HP? It doesn't have to be completely silent, but I don't want the noise level higher than it already is.

I have looked at the Asus silent card, but I'd take a 8600 card with a really quiet fan if it means I can keep a slot.

I use the following from Gigabyte:

I have been quite happy with it. I think Gigabyte makes very good passively cooled video cards. As long as there is decent air flow in your case this one will run fairly cool, even under full load for extended periods of time. I've had no problems whatsoever.

I also have this card in my system, which is my third Gigabyte passively cooled card. Like Benyto says you definitely need good airflow. I have a near silent system (slow turning fans) so mine would idle around 58°c get up to 75°c during gaming. Since I only game occasionally, I ended up putting an undervolted slot cooler next to it. That and underclocking with ATi Tool dropped my idle temps about 10 degrees. You can always get model with a fan »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···14150229 and use a program like RivaTuner to control the fan speed if it's too noisy.

Note that that is not terribly hot. The danger zone for these cards is somewhere around 140°c, if I remember correctly. My previous passively cooled card from Gigabyte, a 6600GT, ran at just over 100°c under full load. I used it for quite a while before replacing it with my current 8600GT. The 6600GT still works fine.

With 120mm Nexus fans in the front and rear of my case the airflow across the video card is more than sufficient in my setup.

I also use the same Gigabyte card (GV-NX86T256H) in a quiet overclocked system. Main system noise are hard drives hum (4 hds) and the power supply fan.

Sonata III
GA-P35-DS3L
Intel E2160 @ 3.2ghz (EIST enabled)
Scythe Ninja Plus REV.B

Fans controlled by SpeedFan (% depending on CPU temp):
Zalman fan on the heatsink 55-75%
Zalman fan in the back 55-75%
AntecTriCool (LOW) blowing from the HD on the video card's heatsink
