HD ain't all that. In fact, I see nothing about it that makes me want to run out and drop $$$$$$$ on either an "HD" television or the $$$$$$$$$ HD cable lineup, which consists of the same ol' shit only brought to the subscriber at a jacked up pricetag. Considering the programming that is found on television today, I'd rather watch TV with rabbit ears and tin foil b/c that's about what it's worth. |

It just so happens that I think it is "all that", and I sprinted out to buy 4 HDTVs over a 2 year span with HDDVRs from both Comcast and Dish on all of em. Additionally, I am impresed that Cox is upgrading their entire system to 1Ghz in addition to SDV and other new things they are implemented.
I think its big news. |

Like they say, once you go HD, you never go back. |

| reply to codee I have an HDTV... but it's 4:3
Considering a new HDTV costs more than my car and motorcycle's values added together.... I'll stick with my POS tv.

Our HD set (a plasma even) was only $1100, and that was pre-Football Season, and not one of those Visio craps. I am guessing that your motorcycle & car are worth lower hundreds then. |

| reply to SilverSurfer So? then enjoy your Lawrence Welk programs and little house on the praire stories and let the rest of us enjoy HD.
Like Codee, I too think it's worth all that. Every TV in my home in HD and most of them 1080p with 120hz capability with 4ms response time. It's almost like being there. |

| reply to Tsume Magnavox, 36" LCD HD 1080i, Office Depot - $499.99... those must be SOME Ford Pinto you have.. and that dirt bike.. oh.. ok.. I'll stop and be nice to you.. my point is that HD TVs are available at the same costs as traditional tubes have been. You may not be able to get a 52" or 65" size TV, but you can still get 26", 32" etc for a damn good price these days.
Hint: don't rule out WalMart, OfficeMax/Depot, etc. Sometimes you find good bargains in the least expected places. |

| I just base my views on the prices at our local Fry's. The only ones sub $1000 are the ones with the red tag which means you pretty much get the display model which has been abused and of course usually has visible picture problems.
My car isn't that crappy, maybe it was an exaggeration... but I'm not far off. '91 Integra and '82 Vision. Reliable but old with high mileage. |

| Well, you don't have to help me understand or bash Fry's.... I used to live in Sacramento... it was home to the returns center. Many of the items from around the state would be shipped into Sacramento and had the White Tag on the box.. they allowed anything to come back and just assumed that people made up excuses that something didn't work in order to get a refund. They'd re-shrink wrap it and put it on the shelf not checking it. (Verified fact)
Seriously.. check places that you wouldn't expect.. you'd be amazed what you can find these days. |

I totally disagree. For me HD really is "all that". It's to the point where I can't stand to watch SD TV channels anymore. There's a lot of shows on Sci Fi channel that I'm really interested in but can't sit through because the picture's so bad. DVD quality is fine, though. |

| reply to Greg_Z For those of you that seem to be actually happy that your entire existence is worth less than others TV's . Why do you hang out on this tech site and post here. Tech costs money, Dont come here and pout.
Perhaps you would meet others of like mindset if you were to post over on the Goodwill or Salvation Army site.
Our family will be proud of our 5 - 50 inch HD sets and will not worry about your "POS tv"
What a troll...! Move on. Maybe hang out over on Kos and the Leftist their will drum up a "Gubment" Program for you. |

My TV did cost about as much as my car did (a '91 Accord), but that's why I drive an old car, so I can spend the money on things that I find more entertaining. |
