DSL Down completely

No DSL at all for the last hour here in Macon, GA. Anyone else? (I'm using MindSpring dial up to post this message. Bellsouth dial up couldn't do it either.)

Do you get synch on DSL at all? Around here it's a DNS outage.

Try using the following opendns servers and see if it improves things (it worked for me):

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

OpenDNS works like a champ. No more issues after swiching over to those DNS servers.

My connection is up and working. I use OpenDNS.

My neighbor called and said she couldn't surf. I switched her DNS servers to OpenDNS and all is well now.

Yep, there is no greater frustration then knowing that the dns servers are down, but not having written down alternate ones then calling every friend you know until you find one that is next to a computer and looks up opendns's ip for you.

Finally got the darn thing working, up yours at&t for sucky dns servers

Cheers,

Thank you. Those DNS numbers did the trick. I can't really complain. My DSL has been very reliable.

My setting was "On-Demand." Is it OK to leave it at that selection? Thanks!

Frustrating - I have detected numerous DNS outages over the past few months, generally brief, with ATT/BellSouth; none this significant, though.

Alright, Bellsouth's DNS servers in my area seem to really be bogged down and/or slow at the moment...

Time to make a switch.

Another thanks for the DNS numbers.
I've been totally down for well over an hour, and when it came back, it was only partial. Those numbers did the trick.
Gotta be pretty widespread too, because the help desk isn't taking any calls ... any calls.

I've had 7 customers call, email OK so it must be DNS server problems.
All on the Treasure Coast, FL.

I can get through using the AOL client. Not direct to the Internet. BS support lines are down.

I went to the OpenDNS site and it looks amazing. Is there any potential problem with using these DNS numbers permanently? My speeds are faster and according to their material, more secure. Can AT&T change my DNS back when/if it's fixed?

Seems to be a problem here in the Nashville area as well. Thanks for the post about openDNS, I forgot about that. They have had issues before like this.

I'm down completely in Newnan, GA. Netopia modem has DSL sync, but the "Internet" light is not on. I don't think changing the DNS settings will fix it. The modem isn't even grabbing an IP address. Like others have mentioned, the support line won't take any calls -- it just hangs up after a few seconds. Grrrr!! I got work to do!

Perfectly safe. I've been using them for quite some time. I suspect AT&T doesn't care if you're using the Opendns, if for no other reason than it's less load on their own servers.

I called the AT&T DSL support number, 1-888-321-2375 from 2 different phones. It never rings, it just disconnects.

I asked a operator for assistance, she said that the line is busyed out. I informed her who I was calling, she said that a lot of people have called in.

I guess AT&T is WELL aware of the issue.

Thank goodness for OpenDNS!!!

OpenDNS rocks !!!

I have had one pc on OpenDNS for 6 months and now the others are switched and will NOT be switched back to BS's servers.

Working for me in FL. One router generally does not take down a whole region. However, I am using AT&T/SBC-SouthWest DNS servers.

For those who wish, you may also use the AT&T AnyCast DNS servers:

68.94.157.1 dnsr2.sbcglobal.net
