You do not need an OpenDNS account to use the basic OpenDNS service.
If using DHCP on your LAN, just set the OpenDNS IP addresses (208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220 ) in your router's DNS configuration, then renew your client connections to push out the new DNS information.
If using static IP/DNS, then you will need to set the OpenDNS DNS IP addresses on each connected client. |

@bellsouth.net | reply to usap you could also change whatever network connection you're using on the local computer and add the DNS server you want. I did this when my modem didn't propagate the proper DNS to my router's clients |

Thanks Heavy Metal, it now working after I renewed the router connection.
Although the OpenDNS website says I am not using OpenDNS it appears that I am doing so because everything is working.
Thanks again! |

Same here in Southeast Florida. Just found that my DSL connectivity is hosed for most outgoing destinations. Was able to get to places like www.oracle.com and this site, but not dnsstuff.com, google, yahoo and most other places.
I can't seem to ping either of my DNS servers: 205.152.144.23 205.152.132.23

| reply to everyNameIsTaken I can ping them, but they are dropping data.
Anyway, there appears to be an AT&T-SouthEast DNS failure. It has happened before back in the BellSouth days. It will probably happen again. Migrate to OpenDNS and/or some other AT&T DNS servers, as previously noted in the thread. |

Now I just hope those servers don't crash under the new loads from everyone...
Thanks for the OpenDNS numbers! |

I see where I can change DNS on the Linksys and on my Mac...
I'd like to move to OPENDNS.

Change it on your Linksys. If using DHCP, renew your client connection for any attached clients. If using static, then set the DNS on your clients as well. |

| reply to BatonRougeBoy Yep - In Miami Florida and Same issue with DNS. I tried Calling 611 for help but the number is busy - hahaha. One time I did get through, I was dropped during the transfer. I got on the web using my blackberry, and used the OPENDns servers instead of the bellsouth servers and it worked just fine for me.
The OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220
I feel sorry for the million people who don't know enough to reconfigure DNS. |

@bellsouth.net | Apparently AT&T's DNS servers are down.
Go to this website and reconfigure your DNS server addresses.

| reply to barton44 I'm also experiencing the outage (it started for me at around 5-6p et) and haven't been able to connect to the Net. I can log in to DSLReports using my DSL line but not to other sites. Thank God I can log in to this site for latest news.
I tried calling the 1-888 AT&T tech number to see if there's a recorded message about an outage but keep getting a message saying "due to technical difficulties we can't answer your call" or something like.
All the lights on my modem and on (except for the UBS one) but the AT&T Desk Help thing shows no connection.
I remember having a problem with my connection sometime ago and one of the tech dudes I spoke to walked me through setting up different DNS numbers. I took a screenshot of the setting/numbers but can't remember how to set it up. |
