| reply to barton44 THANK YOU!
Wow I love you guys so much right now. I was in the middle of registering for my spring term classes when my internet went down. I'm located in Birmingham, AL btw.
Thankfully my cell phone has internet capabilities and I found this thread. I used the first 2 DNS servers listed on page 1 and it fixed everything.
Thanks again. |

| reply to barton44 Re: DSL Down completely
Been using OpenDNS severs for more than a year, so yes they are a good permanent solution, for me at last.
I didn't even know there was a problem until logging in to BBR. -- "Hoaxes use weaknesses in human behaviour to ensure they are replicated and distributed. In other words, hoaxes prey on the Human Operating System." --Stewart Kirkpatrick |

Is OpenDNS a good, permanent solution? |

| reply to chong67 It can be a temp fix or long-term solution. Take your pick.
Either way, here is a quick tutorial for OpenDNS, assuming you can access the server:

| I am a rookie in all this.
I use the OpenDNS server now and it seems to be working.
My own PC use static IP and so I use the openDNS IP also and now I have configure my router to use this openDNS IP.
But isnt using Bellsouth DNS better?
Does that mean it has to route further to OpenDNS? |

@myvzw.com | reply to barton44 Jacksonville, Florida BellSouth DSL is out. The BellSouth phone system also is not letting anyone through and the chat system on the web site times out.
I guess we will just have to wait, thank you Verizon wireless card. |

| reply to barton44 Hello from Covington!
Internet was out as of 6.00pm Central here -- I have school work to do and had to come to work to get it done! I'll try the DNS when I get back home...
FWIW -- my ipv6 tunnel to SiXXs.net is down, and I know that operates using ip addresses, not host lookups... |

| reply to barton44 I have seen a couple routers experiencing high packet loss in my traceroutes, however it looks like the biggest issue is the packet loss at the LAST hop which are the nameservers for the southeast themselves. Packetloss at the last hop could be indicative of a DoS attack.
I don't know how their provisioning system works, but what I see looks like this:
; > DiG 9.3.2-P2 > dns.mia.bellsouth.net. A ;dns.mia.bellsouth.net. IN A dns.mia.bellsouth.net. 600 IN A 205.152.144.23
Anyway MIA looks like Miami (CLLI code?). Why in the world would they send me down there for my DNS.
In Jax, FL I changed my nameservers to a couple I know from experience: 208.67.222.222 24.129.0.34 |

AT&T eAgent > At this time the AT&T network is having issue with our DNS servers. This is causing your connection issue. We are currently working on resolving the issue as quickly as possible. There is no estimated time or restoral at this time. Thank you for you patience.
Pretty much useless. |
