Thanks,

A reminder to those updating to check their Flash Security Settings here due to the occasional flash update resetting the flash security to default:

Thanks for the heads up bowlby4 See Profile!

As a creature of habit (and following a procedure that has always worked very well for me), I always remove all remnants of older versions.
I realize many of you don't.
However, I often see threads where people have problems when updating...problems that I never experience.
(When troubleshooting Adobe Flash Player installations, this is also the recommended procedure).

Therefore (fwiw), a couple of additional notes:

Troubleshooting Adobe Flash Player.
»kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewCon···ninstall

***Also note that there is yet another new version of the uninstaller!***
(The uninstaller will remove Flash from all browsers in one fell swoop).

said by Adobe :
Due to recent enhancements to the Adobe Flash Player installers, you can now remove the player only by using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller. To remove Flash Player, simply download and run the appropriate uninstaller for your system using the steps below.
...

Note: If you have a Windows Flash Player uninstaller downloaded prior to December 3, 2007 on your desktop, then please delete it and download the latest version.
(Includes download link)
»kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewCon···liceId=1

This is for your general information.
Do with it what you will.
Of course, what ever procedure you decide to use is just fine with me.

Also keep in mind that there are two different versions...one for IE, and the "non-IE" plug-in for Opera, Firefox.

Thanks again bowlby4!

I don't think there's anything "occasional" about it, G.K. I think it does it every time.
Just a point of info.

And thanks much for that reminder!

Absolutely.
I think it's very important to always keep an updated Flash Player uninstaller nearby.

Thank you for that reminder, as well!

Thanks for the update!

And I also highly recommend uninstalling old version of flash before installing new version!

Actually this time it did not change my settings to default and I looked.

There is an added feature in the Global Storage Settings for users to dwell over now though.

Allowing sites to "Store Flash Components to reduce download time".

That was checked by default but nothing else was changed.

Edit* Here is their explanation.

# (Flash Player 9.0.115.0 and later) If you do not want to store Flash components on your computer, deselect Store Common Flash Components To Reduce Download Times.

Flash Player lets you store common or shared Flash files and other components from different websites on your computer to significantly reduce download times and allow faster viewing. For example, www.[hotel].com and [reservations.hotel].com might both use the same Adobe components on their sites.

Is that right?
Well, color me 'wrong', then. Sometimes the 'default' behavior on my part.

Yeah, I'll be gettin' all over that one-- not.

Great info! Thank you, G.K.!

Here's what else it removes in one fell swoop-- Shockwave.

Oh well.

So I reinstalled that, too. Which then shows as v. 'r19' on my Admin. account, and v. 'r20' on Limited.
Alrighty then.
Not going to concern myself unless given reason to, though.

And another reminder-- if you right-click on the Shockwave box on the Adobe test page, then choose 'Properties', you can tell them to go pound sand on their data collection.
Truly! That's actually one of the choices! Go figure!

Very strange AB..I've never had that problem before (or now).

Shockwave 10.2r23 is alive and ticking, as always.

Frankly, I'm shocked.

I knew you would consider this electrifying news, jabarnut.

'r23', huh?
Eh, my installer is from May. I thought that was still the latest one, but I guess not.
Of course, if I get a new one, then run the Shockwave uninstaller, it will probably take Flash with it as well, in one fell swoop.

I'll need to sweep all swoops first, I guess, or swap the swoops, or something.

-----------------------
*Edit- Weirdness (or maybe not).

I have a Windows logon page screensaver that requires Shockwave, and obviously uses it thru Explorer, i.e. (so to speak) Internet Explorer.
So it won't run, with an accompanying Shockwave/Flash error message. (The Flash installer being browser-specific.)
I have to bring up IE, go to the Adobe site, and download (run) that Flash installer.

So I go ahead and grab the latest Shockwave installer too.
I ran it too (after closing out IE), but without running the Shockwave uninstaller a second time-- just installing over-top this time.

Now I go back to the test page, this time in Firefox again, and am now told I have the latest, 'r23'.
So, whoop-de-doo.

I haven't had the screensaver kick in again yet, but I'm sure it'll be fine now.

Just posting this as general info, or because I have nothing better to do, or something.

And because I know this info will help you rest easier at night, jabarnut.

Yeesh. Gotta love that Flash and Shockwave-- or, maybe not.

-----------------
*And, one last edit--

Screensaver works again, and now it's 'r23' on the Admin. account-- yet still 'r20' on the Limited account.
Alrighty then.
Am I going to run the Shockwave installer from my Limited account? Er, no.

Because for one, I was also greeted with the notorious 'you must reboot your machine' false message from the Shockwave installer-- which I declined to do, as I wasn't in the mood for an endless reboot cycle. Maybe next time.
Thanks so much for not fixing that yet, Adobe/Macromedia. The chance to bork my computer with your software installer is something I always look forward to.
