I missed the part where it said that public money was subsidizing the Boy Scouts. They are a PRIVATE organization who built their own building with their own money, renovated it with their own money, and maintain it with their own money. It costs the city nothing. There is no discrimination, but there is an exclusionary policy.

This is a Hot Topic in Philly. Apparently there is a homosexual lobby but no straight lobby in the political circles. One guy did try:

Boy Scout vote fired up Kelly’s foes

By Jeff Shields

INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Paul Corbett doesn't have anything personal against City Councilman Jack Kelly. He just wants Kelly out of office for trying to evict the local Boy Scouts from their city-owned headquarters because of the national organization's anti-gay policy.

In September, the 78-year-old Corbett, a Republican like Kelly, sent a warning letter: Unless Kelly reversed his position on kicking the scouts out of their city-owned building on Logan Square, Corbett would target him with 20,000 fliers that he said highlighted Kelly's support of "the homosexual agenda which would promote sodomy to our youth."

Kelly didn't bite. Corbett did. On weekends leading up to the Nov. 6 election, Corbett and his ad hoc committee, Citizens Opposed to Politicians Who Pander to Perverts, leafletted cars outside churches in the Northeast.

The "Voter Alert," printed on yellow index cards, read: "Councilman Jack Kelly voted with the homosexual lobby to remove the Boy Scouts from their city rent-free headquarters.
[Philly] Boy Scouts Getting Evicted

CtrlAltDel : The Boy Scouts of America have been in existence for almost 100 years and their policies have stood the test of time. They have done so many "good turns" for America that I cannot begin to list them. In Philadelphia, they built a beautiful building for their headquarters with their own money on city owned land and were granted a lease forever for one dollar per year. Now the city suddenly wants to charge them $200,000 per year rent, which is in direct conflict with the original lease.

quote:
Scouts ignore gay-policy deadline

They held off on lifting a ban also barring atheists. The city said it would look for a new tenant for their Logan headquarters.

The Cradle of Liberty Council built the Beaux Arts structure in 1928 on Fairmount Park land that the city agreed to lease to it in perpetuity for a dollar a year.

Jubelirer said the scouts should not be required to pay additional rent for a building the scouting council built, spent $2.6 million renovating in 1994, and pays $60,000 a year to maintain.

What has happened is that the morals of the people in the city have changed and some laws have also changed because of the changes in morality. It is very understandable that the Boy Scouts want to keep homosexuals away from the young boys to avoid having the homosexuals sleeping in the same tent or cabin as the Boy Scouts.

The answer to this problem is to start a Gay Boy Scouts of America where the homosexuals could go camping together and leave the BSA as it has been since 1910.

Boy Scouts built the building and have a lease, but the powers think they can change the Scouts by cheating them out of their building. We won't change.

Philadelphia has a terrible crime and murder problem and recreation centers and Boy Scouts are a way to keep the youth off of the streets and in a safe environment. Too bad the city officials can't see past their noses and are willing to allow the anti-straight, anti-religion protesters to have their way. It's a sad, sad, day for the youth of our city.
