Re: Fax to Email Service - Opinions Wanted

The most important aspect for me would be reliability. If someone sends a fax and it gets lost in the ether then this feature would be more of a detriment than a service.

I currently use a real fax machine on my VoicePulse line. It is generally reliable but still dependent on VOIP.

Using this new service on my ViaTalk line sounds attractive but somewhat "dangerous". With a real fax machine everything is instantaneous. The success of the transmission is immediately known and a hard copy result is readily available.

I'm not adverse to new technology (heck, I use 2 VOIP lines and no POTS). I just would hate to miss an important document because ViaTalk was down or there was a blip in the system. If someone sends me a fax and their system says that it went through to me, I want to assure that I actually receive it (and vice-versa).

this is how it should be $5/mo for Unlimited Outbound and Inbound Faxes with a Dedicated Local Number or $15/mo for Unlimited Outbound and Inbound Faxes with a Dedicated Toll Free Number.

I use '»www.faxsv.com' in order to receive my faxes for free. It's enough for occasional user. In addition it gives an option to send a fax from analog fax device to any email.

Any updates on this service?

I rarely need to fax but it would be nice to have this available.

Stanaphone already offers a similar service, and free incoming faxes.

I would like to receive faxes/SMS via my viatalk number, but i don't want to be paying a flat fee for a given number of messages, since i wouldn't be using that many faxes in a month.

Why not incorporate 5-15 free faxes per month for all accounts, and charge a fee per fax afterwards? That would accommodate my needs, as well as many others I'm sure.

Hi,

How bout something like $2-3/mo. which included 50 incoming & 50 outgoing per month? That seems to be in line and/or cheaper than most current stand alone offerings.

Will that be total # of faxes or pages... I would pay that for total # of faxes correct...

What's fax-to-email cost? It's being advertised on the website for 1 month free but no indication of the cost afterwards...

There should be an unlimited fax-to-email package as well as one with a limited number of pages.

So where can we find information on how to upload faxes? I want to figure out how easy it is before I sign up. I'm on a mac and use Vuescan for scanning documents.

I happen to work for the company I posted...
but anyway.
Fax2mail systems typically take the body of the email as the 'coverpage', and the attachment as the "fax document". You attach a valid document type (.doc, .pdf, etc.) and it gets output to the fax machine on the other end. Your input is sent via EMAIL.

thats great, but I'd like to see a faq or something since I would be scanning documents as jpg or pdf and I would like to see what they will look like on the recipient end before sending. So simply emailing something and assuming it would make it there legibly is a big issue. Also, are files deleted after they are faxed (since one might be faxing sensative documents)?

»www.faxaway.com is another incoming free fax services. However they stick to giving out washington state phone numbers since that is where they are based. efax.com free account might assign you a fax number from anywhere...

I wish I could comment, but it seems to not be working, or at least my 1 month free expired after 1 week.
I cannot recieve faxes on my line, and in the CP for Fax to Email, it only show the add on feature.

Not sure that I want to pay for something I cannot confirm is operational.

Per the VT features page:

About - Fax to Email Service - [return to feature list]

Let your phone line double as a fax machine. Enable fax to email and receive faxes via email that are sent to your VT phone number. Also send outbound faxes via email as well as through the control panel.

To Configure Fax to Email Service:

1. Login into your account at cp.viatalk.com
2. Click on the Fax to Email link on the features page
3. Select a fax to email package and click on the link that says "Add Fax to Email"

To Use:

1. Log into your account at cp.viatalk.com
2. Click on the Fax to Email link on the features page
3. Enter your email address into the "Allowed Email Addresses" section
4. Select one of the addresses to receive incoming faxes via email.

To Send:

1. Send an email from one of the addresses listed in the "Allowed Email Addresses" table to 11-Digit-Number@vtfax.com.

Ex- to send a fax to (518)-371-5919 => 15183715919@vtfax.com

To Receive:

1. Send a fax to your viatalk phone number and you will receive it in PDF form via email at the address you specified.

Above is what the VT web page says regarding Fax to email. Being a current user I am unable to "see" this when I log into my account.

When going to: cp.viatalk.com I can't log in with my user name and password.

My solution since before this feature became available has been & currently is to use k7.com. Who provides free fax to email and voice mail service.

Good luck with the VT fax to email service. - Ed

You will eventually be migrated over to the new CP. Or you can PM VTIain and have him migrate you over now. New customers are being placed on the new CP from the start.

So if we have a virtual number for $3.95 a month, we can switch it to this fax service for only $1.95 a month? Or is the 1.95 a month on top of the virtual number fee?
