 | Internet Has Offically Went Gov. Owned. Welp, this is the Govs. first step to getting their paws into the cookie jar. Getting to the point where public has no rights, and no way of counter acting.
We all knew this would happen one day.
The way this technology from my understanding is that AT&T will filter out streams we download via uverse so in theroy we can pirate the content we receive from them. Is that correct?
I never did get this whole MPAA // RIAA thing. Most of the music and movies on the internet is done crappy in the first place. It's usually not in its original format anyway.
I never did what the big fuss is about it. The industry should be happy that some of this content is released onto the internet.
If I like something I buy it. But I don't buy crap. I have tons of DVD and Blue-Ray movies I have bought.
Same goes for games. If you download whatever content and you like it, buy it.
The gov. wont be happy until they control some if not all of the internet. Shit man, we might as well turn into Germany and allow the gov. to become nazi's and bush and all the big companies ceo's become hitler.
When is it going to end? Until the end of days? Soon big brother will watch us take a shit, or hey, even having sex.

You can download plenty of barely (or not at all) degraded HD stuff online, legitimately and illegitimately.

It's the fact that what we do and can buy is restricted. Most folks have bought a single song several times over multiple formats (LP, Tape, CD) - yet the RIAA still balks when you use that thrice-paid-for song on your iPod because you didn't pay for it yet again through a DRMed system. I won't get into fair use because that's a whole other can of worms (and the pro-xxAA folks always pooh-pooh it; I do digital video as part of my business, I'll tell you right now it IS a legit argument)..

You know I used to think Godwin's Law was an internet joke, but man, that was one quick degradation right into it, paranoia and all. May I polish your tinfoil hat, sir? |

| reply to CBLMorphis As a previous user posted, this will ALWAYS be a game of cat and mouse. No matter how hard they try to firewall piracy, there's always going to be that pinhole or leak where people can download pirated content. Tons of $$$ will be wasted on this. -- I have achieved 3 meg , fastpath sync on a 15,700 ft. 26 ga copper line. =] |

I wouldn't even say "pinhole leak". The RIAA just realized that Usenet exists a couple of months ago. |

| Oh my.
"There's always going to be an entrance or pathway where people can download pirated content"
That's better. -- I have achieved 3 meg , fastpath sync on a 15,700 ft. 26 ga copper line. =] |

 | reply to tcp1 Most, majority of the content via newgroups or p2p the movies are done poorly.
They strip the menus, extras, and sometimes the other langs.
I am not talking buying, I am talking downloading pirated content that is. -- Like My DSL!!! |

I'd call it a gigantic vortex or even a black hole. |

If that's true, then why do the idiots keep trying to filter content, knowing they're always going to fail? =| Either they have no clue, can't hire the right people that do, or are just giving lip service to appease bigwigs in that they're doing "something".
Then again, if it all made sense, we wouldn't be having this conversation, would we?
Edit: Then again, leave it to the companies that come across the radar every few months who say they "have the answer". (We know what happened to the last one of those.. Hello, MediaDefender.) They all come up with a slick sales pitch and some proprietary "technology" that all but assures no false positives and 99% accuracy...
Anyone who knows anything about anything digital realizes that's a horrible load of bunk. Random encryption to a public key that changes regularly is good enough to beat anything. At that point, we're back to the cat-and-mouse game, where the "protection" companies would have to keep up with every key broadcast out there in order to see what's being sent.
Good luck with that.
If it can be seen and heard, it can and will be copied. If it's digital, it can be encrypted. End of story. The only answer is to offer unrestricted content at the right price using the right delivery system. iTunes with DRM free is "almost". Nothing's quite there yet, and most of the content companies aren't even close to getting with the program. |

That, and there are plenty of newsgroups with absolutely unadulterated full DVD ISOs, with all extras and content, by the buttload.
Not sayin' know.. I just heard, from a guy. :P |
