·AT&T DSL Service

one thing

Ok, so there's one part of this argument I don't get.

All of a sudden AT&T cares because they're going to/are doing some video delivery. ...Um, cable's already been doing this for how long? Do they really care? Haven't heard them step up and say it quite like AT&T, so I really do not understand.

Also, AT&T is in a better position to deliver constant bandwidth to people because of how their infrastructure is laid out. Why should they care if people are using their lines all the time for whatever they want?

This whole thing is too confusing. The xxaa's need to get off their collective behinds and really put together a service that 1) works 2) has everything. Yes, I mean everything you can think of... if a bunch of nerds can collectively do it, how hard would it be to hire some? 3) make it cheap enough that most people can afford it -
I'd be willing to bet that in a very short time, a large chunk of "pirates" would cease their activities altogether.

Why not do this? Paranoia. Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt. Greed. Who knows. I think it's mostly that they're too lazy. After all, inaction is worse than taking some kind of action. Result? More people sued/extorted into paying up for their misdeeds.

Here's a clue,
better start working on the new super-media-portal now because it's already been started by so many others.

Rhapsody's a good start for music, but for crying out loud stop taking things away from it. I know that's not the artist (in some cases), it's usually the label and/or lawyers making hair brained decisions. Same w/iTunes. Some things are there, other things simply return no result. Not everyone likes only mainstream/popular music. Sometimes you want to find that b-side or whatever that was really good but not super popular.

Netflix is a good idea, and a decent start for the movie/video world. How about offering unlimited streaming and put the whole collection online?

Until these lazy chumps start making this a reality, they have little excuse to cry about people going and finding what they want. Offer it easily, cheaply, and people will flock to it. How hard of a concept is that?
