Has anyone called verizon and requested 7mbit service outside of the areas we know have it?

It should not require any splitters..

GWI(a local company) runs out of a Verizon CO, and offers 20/1 service, no technition has to do anything.

It may not be 100% needed, but given the potential for problems with line conditions affecting speeds, it's something they require. That's something Verizon has always done.

What exactly does it do? do they do line bonding or what?

No, they install a Home Run, a filter/splitter they install at the NID. One side goes to the jack where the modem will connect, the other to the rest of the house. It eliminates and works much better than the inline filters they give you now.

I've had the 7.1 residential service for about 7 years... I get apx. 5Mb down and 720Kb up @14000 feet. No splitter was installed.

I have had one of those for about 3 years now, when I moved my service sucked so in trying to find the problem they installed a spilitter in my NID (for free ) anyhow problem ended up being on the other side of the CO like I told em all along but I did get a free splitter out of the deal LOL
