Slow Wireless on laptop?
Hi guys, I just got a new laptop, Windows Vista, built in wireless. With good signal my transfer speeds are only around 2mb to the laptop, wired clients are fine, anyone got suggestions?

I assume the OS is Vista? If so, you can try unchecking TCP/IP v6 in the properties of the wireless connection.
Right-click the wireless icon in the taskbar, select network and sharing center, select View Status for the active wireless connection. This helped a bit with my slow wireless (Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN).
What helped a lot was uninstall Norton, free trial with my notebook. I also tried Comcast's free Macafee, but that didn't help. Without an AV at all, my wireless is 12-14Mbps down, 1-1.4Mbps up. With either of these two AV suites, down was 6-8Mbps, up 750Kbps.
I am using Avast free home AV, and my wireless speeds are about the same as having no AV.
Note that tuning utilities like CableNut and DrTCP will not work with Vista since Vista auto-tunes its connection speeds.
