I use both Acronis True Image 11 and Terabyte's Image for Windows (belt and braces man). I like them both and use them satisfactorily on XP and Vista. |

| reply to Babar Voted "None." I do occasional data backups of personal data by copying it into a folder on a small drive on another computer on the network. I also sometimes copy my data to a DVD.
I should do more, but imaging a full 200 GB drive needs another 200 GB drive to image it to and I don't have that. |

| reply to Babar Hmm,
I use BackupMyPC, NovaBackup, and NTI Shadow. I tried Acronis' Version 7, but couldn't seem to get past the issues at the time. It wouldn't work on my media, and had problems accessing large image segments.
From the survey, it looks like Acronis is a popular option these days. I might consider paying the upgrade fee to get the most recent version.
I really like how NTI Shadow keeps tabs on your file usage and backs up the file immediately upon updating it. It's almost like having a mirrored device!
BTW, anyone else using the HP Media Vault for network backup of networked home computers? |

Drivesnapshot...this is the only software I have found that will backup a striped RAID set in windows on the fly. It also is built into BARTSPE, so recovery is easy. Free to restore forever, free backups for 30 days, but if you want to make backups after 30 days, you have to buy.

| reply to Babar said by Babar :Computer data protection and recovery has become big business in the last few years, and the number of available programs has blossomed to dozens and dozens. While I can see how backup and imaging might be combined, they really should be two separate polls. Imaging is usually an all or nothing solution. Backup is more fine-grained, offering ability to just restore files/directories.
Plus, most of the backup solutions listed are generally aimed at smaller businesses with few servers and modest data protection requirements. |

Acronis True Image all the way here! Has never let me down....not once.
The only difference between me and some of the others is that I'm still using an older version. (V8 Build 937).
The way I make images it has always worked flawlessly for me. Figured, why change a good thing? -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

1 edit | reply to Babar •Acronis TI 8 on spouse's XP computer •Acronis TI 9 on my retired-from-daily-use XP computer •Acronis TI 10 on my Vista computer
Backups are written to two external drives. Spouse has his own external harddrive as do I. I don't back up my XP computer much anymore, so my external harddrive is pretty much permanently tethered to my Vista computer.
