At the moment as far as the DoI is concerned, there is lots of competition (but from there own numbers, for the life of me, I don't see how they dare come to that conclusion when 94% (something like that) of people are with the incumbent telcos and cable cos.

It used to be that they counted dialup providers in the number of users.

One thing is clear though, even the alternate telephone services are not really competetive. As much as I dislike Bell, I know that they know the telephone business and their service is 100%. There's no finger pointing between CLEC and ILEC when there's problems.

I don't see competition actually happening. It comes to a point that whether charging for additional $30-$40 for overage usage is right or not for an originally claimed 'unlimited' Internet. I think these big ISP's tactic is already winning the war since consumers are backing off in favor of their decision of changing the agreement. Next time they will ask you to pay more or else they will cap or lower your speed. And there will have ppl saying they can pay extra for good speed. That's the world we live in. Sign...

Take for instance, I pay $2000 a month at my datacenter for just a 100mbit commission of bandwidth at 95th percentile to my full cabinet, if I chose to cap it out solid for a month, I'd consume about 30TB of bandwidth that entire month in the process. Yes, thats over 30,000 gigs! Well worth the 2 grand dont'cha think? The more bandwidth you pay for the cheaper it becomes and that should be no secret to anyone working in the field.

Rogers is paying for oodles of bandwidth, and while it won't cost them anything more if you capped your internet during the night hours, they're free to charge you $1.50/gb for going over anyways.

Quite appalling to say the least. As if lowering the caps wasn't bad enough already. but i noticed that tecksevy charges 10$ extra for 100gigs more on their premium package(i shish i could switch but not dsl service here)

if rogers gives options like this to users it would be a great option

i usually use around the 200gig mark, so it would be a nice option

for exemple

i get over 100gigs, they charge me 1.25 for extra gig to a max of 10$ at which they just upgrade me to 200gig, and then 1.25 more to a max of 10 to get a total of 300gig and 20$ over my regular bill

So far the only service Rogers has published overage rates for is Extreme Plus (»www.rogers.com/web/content/inter···et_usage), and they don’t list a maximum limit as experienced by (»!! $$$ Just got billed for EXTREME Overages TODAY Dec5$$$ !!). I have thus made my calculations for each service using Extreme Plus as a ‘best guess scenario’ although there is nothing official saying this overage rate will be used for all services. There have been indications that $2.50/GB may be apply to some services, and a cap of $20, $50, or $100. However I couldn’t find this information figure in any document mentioned in Rogers Term’s of Service, Acceptable Usage Policy and the ~$350 for ~260GB over experience of one user seems to indicate there isn’t a cap. Theoretical maximum speeds have been used which are not be obtainable in the real world. The point of this is to show you how much trouble you could get into if you try to maximize your internet connection.. Basically.. don’t try to download as much as possible, and monitor your P2P software… don’t run it without limits.. and don't leave it running all the time!!
