| reply to rv65 Re: [TWC] Time Warner Navigator
Navigator seems to be doing fine so far. I had to readjust my DVR schedules, but that's it.
The DVR is still making a low hum noise from the hard drive all the time. It never did this before Navigator (it used to spin down when you turned the DVR off). Is this normal with Navigator on the 8240HDC? So far this is my only complaint. |

| Yes it's normal. The Samsung DVR probably keeps the HDD on all the time but it's much quieter than the 8300HDC. When I walk up to my Samsung DVR it's silent. The Legacy boxes can turn off the HDD when you press the pwr button but it can still turn itself back on to do defrag or updates. |

| reply to rv65 said by rv65 :Yes it does stay on though on the legacy boxes you can turn it off and it will stay off until it does its defrag thing. I hope this is a Navigator deficiency that can be fixed, and not a hardware 'feature' of the new STBs. My non-DVR 4250HDC is fourth highest (16w 24x7) on my electric bill after the refer, TV and computer monitor. The 'power' button only turns off the aux outlet if I set it that way.
What do your boxes draw?

| I don't have a killawatt. I do know that Broadcom has released a new STB chip that finally has power management features. These chips have been announced but it wont be for a while until you'll see them. Maybe the next gen Samsung boxes will have them. The power button also turns off the video outputs. Only the 8300HD's have this feature. I should get a killawatt but maybe later. |

1 edit | Although I'm getting used to the noise while sleeping, I still wonder why the decision was made to do this with Navigator. It seems like it will put more wear and tear on the hard drives to constantly keep them spinning. Plus it uses more power.
Anyway other than the new noise I'm enjoying Navigator so far. It is an improvement over SARA in my opinion, and so far my DVR seems to work better with Navigator. |

| reply to cypherstream Navigator will match Passport 2006 in the next coming updates. It probably won't rival a 2009 version of Passport but it's gotten so much better over the past few years. Maybe it will surpass Passport 2009 in the next 2 years or so. Navigator also supports interactive Mosaic's as our division has mentioned a new Mosaic channel which might be interesting. The Samsung boxes are very quiet even though it still constantly buffers the tuners which makes the HDD spinning all night long.
ODN and MDN should be getting Keyword search in the next couple of updates and ODN will finally get working eSATA. Remote/Web DVR programming is also coming in a future update. The guide data is much better but the core data is still truncated but the meta tags are better. -- SA 8300HDC ODN v3.1.3_2 2x SMT-H3260 ODN v3.1.3_2 SMT-H3270 ODN v3.1.3_2

| Some divisions have a Navigator feed back form. If your division has this form then you should fill it out as they will keep your responses in mind. Not all divisions have this but the contact us form works great if you have it sent to the Navigator Engineering department. |

@rr.com | I have a 4240HDC box and I have a Segate 500Gb HDD and I want to know if I can hook it up and see if it will take it as a DVR? |
|
rv65 Rally racing is real racing Premium join:2008-08-02 San Diego, CA | reply to cypherstream No you can't use it as a DVR. It doesn't support USB storage. |
|
  jordanh
@rr.com | Would it take Firewire storage. In the settings it talks about 1394 storage and their are two ports in the back of it. In the settings it says 1394 Summery and it says
Storage Devices: Non Installed
Could it add that in their |
|
rv65 Rally racing is real racing Premium join:2008-08-02 San Diego, CA | No it only uses Firewire for capturing HD content. It might say that but you can't use the FW port for that. Plus the 4250HDC only has 1 tuner. My Samsung 3260's have a SATA port where you can install an HDD to it but it's probably disabled. |

rv65 Rally racing is real racing Premium join:2008-08-02 San Diego, CA | I think Greensboro should start updating the 8300HD's. They should be finished with the HDC boxes but there might still be some left. This transition should be done by the end of this month. Not to mention the 25 new HD channels. |
