3 methods of getting diagnostics in ODN.
1. Press Select until the mail light comes on then press down on the remote. That enables a ODN diagnostic menu.
2. Find the Diag channel which is some random number and not published in the guide.
3. Press Vol+ and Select on the box to access the SA diagnostic menu.
For the 8300HD you can use Select and Down which gives you a pretty good diag menu. The 8300HD is next in the line of updates. The 8300HD uses a different version of Navigator optimized for Legacy boxes that have less RAM.

San Diego, CA | I have ODN v3.1.3_2. No you can't have an external HDD on a non DVR box though the Samsung 3260 has a SATA port which is likely disabled. |

You should be seeing some new HD channels pretty soon. Those new channels will be launched in 2 phases. Phase 1 will be by the end of the month and phase 2 will be by the end of November. TWC Greensboro is also extending the Navigator date to 2nd week of November. They don't want to rush this transition. |

@rr.com | I already see new SD and HD channels I did not see in the old guide. I also saw that they brought back the Answers on Demand. SARAH had Answers on Demand but they took it off. And, the Start Over and On Demand loads up quickley and plays faster/\. |

I had the exact same problem with my 8240 HDC cable box. Whole box was all goofy with external drive connected after the Navigator update. In the end, TWC wiped out months of recordings for no good reason. My box behaved the same as yours. It seemed to be recognized only once after plugging/unplugging combination. After that, it was as if the eSATA port was dead or something. Although hard drive works perfectly fine connected thru usb or esata to a pc. Even formatting it on computer and plugging it back up doesn't cause DVR to see it again. That should trigger it to be formatted but zilch.
Strongly considering switching to TIVO for DVR service!

Guess my 8240 HDC got ODN which it sounds like can't handle eSATA drives. Guess TWC has turned my external storage into a paperweight in effect. Maybe they can give me a legacy box with MDN on it that can still work with my hard drive. Sigh...gotta love TWC. |

Both of which are pretty glaring problems if you ask me. How in the world this eluded the TWC folks during testing is beyond me. My guess is that it didn't. They knew full well that they were dropping the record to vcr option as well as breaking external storage and just didn't care. |

I really like the new navigator. If you are searching for something on the guide like On Demand in the Find Show's area I was looking for the Nostradamus Effect and it found it on Demand and all I did is it Play and their it was.
It is so much faster than SARAH. I'm glad it is out of my box. |

Maybe SARA was ugly...but she worked. Navigator might be sleeker and prettier but not even close in terms of stability, esata, or archiving to vcr/dvd. Newer isn't always better. |

I think you'll start seeing some improvements but maybe next year. They're committed to this buggy software and have improved it quite a bit. It was much worse a year ago. |

| You are probably right. Where I work, I administer the local PEG channel for our city and thus have a few contacts with TWC that most cable users don't have. So, I've been able to find out the deal with this. TWC confirmed this morning that all of the HDC boxes in Greensboro that had ODN/Navigator pushed to them completely lost the ability to use an eSATA drive whether third party or TWC provided.
They said once the push out of Navigator is completed in January, they might look at getting the code fixed to again work with eSATA devices.
If you ask me, this is very crappy! There's no reason the drive support could not have been coded for and tested before this. This failure wiped out any recorded content on any external drive of a TWC cable box for all users in the market. That's just insane! |

| I thought this rollout would end in November. The eSATA support has been broken since ODN v3. Navigator might be getting eSATA in the future. The contact us form does work if you mention that this letter gets to the Navigator engineering team. They do listen to feedback. |
