 | reply to cypherstream this new software is crap. they rolled this software in cincinnati about a year ago. since then I have went through 3 dvr boxes. the first two I guess it wrecked the hard drive because I couldn't record or watch anything I had recorded in the past. the third one was stuck on an endless rebooting loop. every time I would take one back it would have the old passport on there then I would wake up a few weeks later angry because they upgraded while I was sleep. my brother works in a time warner call center and he said that he spends most of his time answering calls about the software. they should have waited till the got all the bugs out to release it. I guess it makes to much sense to make sense to them. |
|
 | reply to cypherstream My TWC DVR and digital box both went into an endless rebooting loop today. I suspect they downloaded a bad firmware, but now there is nothing I can do but swap the boxes. They were absolutely no help on the phone. They blamed it on the switch to DTV and said to expect this for the next few months! |

Xrac join:2008-07-20 united state | reply to cypherstream Well Welcome Navigator to Central Florida, they have been doing the push here, it started in Orlando and made its way east. I'm in the Daytona Area and Navigator Sucks!! I called in a service call the guy came out and said "ohh its the software sorry nothing I can do for you there's no boxes that work so sorry", "Bye" .. and left. Its just ridiculous I am spamming this everywhere from here out and doing everything I can to bad mouth TWC until they fix this. this is ridiculous and it needs to be fixed, they are just trying to gather more information about our TV habits and gather statistics, they're not improving the service, nothing about navigator is better than the old guide NOTHING! in actuality the old guide was superior in every way. I was told they will be fixing the bugs in future patches expected out early 2009!! WTF ?? |

 | We were upgraded to this MYSTRO garbage approximately 3 months ago. Since then nothing but problems. Slow, forgets to record, etc. The list is endless compared to how much better passport works. The answer I get from Time Warner is you will get used to it. It has been 3 months and I cannot get used to the slowness, the missing programs, etc. The other day I DVR'd a show. It got stuck in the middle. It wouldnt go any further. I had to get rid of the show. For approx 180.00 a month I should not have to get used to anything! |
|
 | reply to Rombus Still shows you that the grass is not greener on the other side.
Can't wait until these companies get a clue about how to write good software for these boxes. |

It's still silver but isn't entirely silver and blue. Highlighted stuff is in yellow. the time bars are brown/green. This could very well help those with Eye Problems. Too bad other divisions are being slow in deploying this new version of Navigator. |

rv65Ban Cat DeclawingPremium join:2008-08-02 USA!!!! kudos:1 | v2.4.4-14 is the version for MDN. ODN hasn't yet gotten the new update. Samsung is also a development partner. This means that Samsung will be making the next gen cable boxes. Samsung has a nice DVR called the SMT-H3090. This DVR will replace the SA/Cisco and Motorola boxes. This requires a headend that uses the SA HDC boxes. Motorola headends might need OCAP in order to use the new Samsung box. Some areas are already getting the new Samsung box but not the Samsung DVR. |

 | reply to rv65 Manhattan has yet to deploy MDN. However, we're always the last ones because we cannot afford problems with the upgrades. |

rv65Ban Cat DeclawingPremium join:2008-08-02 USA!!!! kudos:1 | As for the new update it does look better. The channel bar has a purple/blue color but the background is silver. The channel grid is blue and this dark green/black color. The show grid is a darker blue color. Grid highlights are in a yellowish color. Even the menus have that yellow highlights. The blue pane in the menus is now a darker blue. VOD app has been changed. It looks a bit different. So far they haven't really done much bug fix wise but it's really a new look for MDN.
ODN aka HDC boxes have yet to get this new look. My ODN boxes are at 2.4.10_11 unless there is some secret version that hasn't came out. Bob Barlow mentioned the guide would be updated but he didn't mention ODN though. No widescreen but the current boxes can't do that yet. The Samsung SMT-H3090, Cisco, and the new Moto DCX boxes can do it. For those who really, really want a widescreen IPG then you must wait for the new boxes if they support it. |

rv65Ban Cat DeclawingPremium join:2008-08-02 USA!!!! kudos:1 | There are 2 versions of Navigator. MDN and ODN
ODN is OCAP digital Navigator. OCAP means Open Cable Access Platform. OCAP is also known as tru2way. ODN works on the Scientific Atlanta HDC boxes but can work on the new Samsung boxes. tru2way/OCAP use java which isn't really designed for some of the current boxes. One cool thing about ODN is that it doesn't have to be on a box. Someday you will be able to buy a TV and then have ODN installed on it. ODN has gotten a recent update in San Diego to 3.1.0_7.
MDN is the guide for older SA boxes and Pioneers or any older SA compatible box. It's faster and but has maybe one or 2 features ODN might not have but there are cases of ODN having more features than MDN. It's written in C which is much faster than Java. Just make sure your running MDN on a newer legacy box since it can be very bad with an older Pioneer I used to have. On a 3250HD it's not that bad. Also NYC's HD VOD requires ODN to run but MDN could easily run that channel. TWC has yet to deploy MDN but has been deployed in Passport areas like mine.
Just an analysis on the 2 guides. |
